There has been a steady decline in the tiger population all acroos the globe. At the beginning of the last century,it is believed that worldwide, there were about 100,000 tigers in the world with about 40% being found in India. This number has been declined to few thousands today. The decline in the tiger population can be attributed to many factors. The major reason would be the growth of the human population.Today increasing biotic disturbances, uncontrolled poaching of the prey, urbanisation, mining and quarrying and poaching of tiger for its body parts gravely threaten the future of tiger.Bones and other body parts of the tiger are used in traditional chinese medicines and their skins are used for making chubas(the traditional rope worn by the tibetans). It is this illegal market for tiger skins and parts in china and Tibet that remains as one of the most serious threat to wildlife in Asia. This is not only in Asia, but tigers all across the globe are facing this extinction. What do you think about the plight of the tigers????

Due to greediness of man, forest cover is becoming less and less and as a result there are no good forest for tigers to live. They encroach into human dwelling areas and they get killed. Also unscrupulous people want parts of the tiger for medicine and there are evenmore unscrupulous people who was the tiger skin. Unless these things are stopped with highhanded ness. there is no way we can save the tiger and day will come it will be declared that Tiger is extinct.

Absolutely I do agree with you. Majority of the factors that are leading to the dwindling of the tiger population are human borne. Unless we realise the importance of ecosystem and unless we realise the importance of ecology and the natural balance, protecting tiger would be a lip service. Sadanand.

My name is sadananda Holla and Yours is sadanand. Donot you fee it is a nice name meaning always happy. Regarding tigers, the government of India and the state government have launched several projects to save tiger by earmarking a vast area for increasing tiger population. The scientists also collar the tigers and minitor its movements and keep tab on its population. But all said and done, a mass movement about awareness is very much required.

Well I do agree with you, the Government of India has taken some serious steps in enhancing and conserving the tiger population, but that does not serve the purpose unless a mass awareness is carried out regarding the dwindling population of tigers. We often see the plight of tigers in zoo's across India as well. The easiest way to get funds for Tiger Conservation is to let Corporates adopt them to take care of them. Tiger population is dwindling in general all across the world. It has reached an alarming stage. Unless realised the importance of bringing their number up, tiger would be extinct from the planet Earth.
