Can you eat with chopsticks?

Just curious, how many people here can eat with chopsticks? Obviously, some of you will be accustomed to this because you are from a country where chopsticks are the norm, but what about everyone else? Where and how did you learn? My dad taught me when I was little. Whenever we went to a Chinese restaurant, he would send the forks away with the waiter and we HAD to eat with chopsticks. It was very frustrating sometimes, but it meant we did learn quickly!

Sure I can. Since, I'm Chinese. But to be honest, the way I hope my chopstick is totally wrong and I really cannot be bothered to change it. Some people will comment that hey a Chinese cannot hold the chopstick properly but really, I can pick up more marbles the way I hold my chopsticks then the right way. I like to do what makes me comfortable and never cared about what other people may comment. I think picking up marbles using chopstick can help you to learn to use the chopstick quite quickly. :D

Hey, if it works! I have never tried to pick up marbles with chopsticks . . . I don´t think I would last long! I know what you mean about just doing things the way that is comfortable. I personally hold both a pencil and a crochet hook wrong, but the way I do it works for me!

I eat with chopstick. I enjoy to eat with chopstick because back in my country, not many can use chopstick to eat. People who use chopstick here, u can divide it into 2 groups. The one who only can use chopstick to eat noodles but cannot eat rice. There's another group who can eat noodles, rice and almost all dishes using chopstick. I'm in category 2.. Back when i was little, i was so devoted to cantonese drama which was shown every evening on TV. I like the way they eat using chopstick. Then I started slowly how to use chopstick. Firstly its hard, I admit it. I always make a mess until my mother yelling at me "What on earth have u done to all of the foods?!!". Then I just silently cleanse everything... Its going on and on until Me myself don't even realize, when actually is it that i can use chopstick to eat... And for now, I thank God that I can eat using chopstick cause when i started my job, it was surrounded by mostly chinese. The big boss is chinese and always invited us to some expensive chines restaurant. I'm so proud because even though I can't speak chinese, I can eat the way they eat. Eat everything on the table using chopstick.

Honestly, I don't know how to use chopstick in eating. I don't even know the proper way of holding it. I bought a pair and am trying to practice it on my own but to no avail. I'll just eat with fork and spoon it's a lot easier.

Only occasionally. Some commercial japanese restaurants I go to have chopsticks instead of spoon and fork. I'm still learning to get the hang of them esp. when eating non-sticky rice. I just ask for a spoon when I can't take it anymore.

I learned when I was in my early teens or it could have been younger. We used to go to Chinatown in Vancouver for Chinese food and chopsticks were always offered then, not like in the restaurants I have been in here in Winnipeg. I wish they would offer them here, but it seems they think us white folk are unable to master the technique. Well I did and Chinese food tastes better with chopsticks.

Sure, I can eat well enough with chopsticks, my friend. After all, I use them practically everyday. They are especially good for noodles. But sometimes if I am feeling lazy or just having something simple, I will opt for a fork instead. :)

I love using chopsticks to eat. No, I'm not Chinese but I do live in Malaysia so the Chinese culture has definitely seeped into our society. I don't really know how good I am with chopsticks compared to the Chinese but I can eat a bowl of rice with chopsticks. Whenever my family and I go eat at a Chinese restaurant, I prefer to use chopsticks even though I'll be eating rice. My whole family does that to. Somehow I find that it has more 'feel' to it when I'm eating with chopsticks especially when eating noodles. I don't know why. It's just yummier that way! lol..

I can handle chopsticks in eating food because my parents have taught me how to use chopsticks at an early age. I want to let you know there are many advantages in using chopsticks. Chopstick is not a simple tool. According to medical experts, handling chopsticks in everyday life activates their 64 muscles and 34 articulation at once. In addition, the movement of each finger in handling chopsticks might help to develop a kid's intellectual powers stimulating the nerves to the cerebrum and can prevent Alzheimer's disease. Here are tips for developing your skill in handling chopsticks. One is the game in which people pick and carry beans or grains (soybeans for childrens and mungbeans and rice for adults) from one point to another. Another game is selecting beans of a particular color (chosen by competing teams) from a plate of several beans of different colors. Still another is a relay game by transporting a bean from the chopsticks of the person at the top of the line to the chopsticks of the next person until it reaches the person at the end of the line. It is important that each player maintains the gap between the chopsticks. When you play a game with chopsticks, you don't need to buy expensive chopsticks and beans. Keep this in mind. Likewise you can develop your creativity by thinking of variations to the games.
