it had a rather open ending so the audience can use their own fantasy to figure out what happened or not. some say there was no intention to let the audience make up endings. either way the story line itself is also open for interpretation was it all a dream, did he really leap through a hole... but I think the main message was found in the end song (gary jules song) Mad World..
