Do you smile at strangers or keep to yourself?

Sometimes I don't smile back at strangers when I think they look kind of "shadey". Some people just have something about them makes me feel uncomfortable. Do you smile at every stranger who smailes at you?

I work in retail so I am trained to smile and greet anyone that comes within 10 feet of me while I am working. So, yes, I do smile at everyone. But, when I'm not at work I do tend to smile at people unless they give me that uneasy feeling that you mentioned you get sometimes. There are lots of oddballs in this world.

That does make it different if it's part of your career ;) You sound like a great employee. I've seen alot of people in retail not smile and stand there looking miserable! They look downright annoyed if you ask them something! It's good to hear that you're not like that!

Why thank you Backpack! I do take pride in my work, regardless of what the work is. Sure, I have days when I don't necessarily want to be working, but I still do what needs to be done with as little complaint as I can hold in. Judy, you should definitely say something to the slackers you work with. A team is only as good as it's weakest link. When the end of the night comes and everything has to look good all of the employees need to pull together to help each other out, otherwise everyone ends up having to stay longer than they want to. Thanks to you both for responding to my response!

I work with people like that. They just stand by the fitting rooms and look like they want to be anywhere else, while the rest of us do THEIR work on top of ours, since it has to be done by the end of the night, I have started chastising them and am refusing to do their work any more

I smile at most strangers who smile at me and even start conversations at the bus stop and at work. I have to do something to look busy at work, and talking to a customer always gets me off the hook

You're friendlier than I am ;) Then again, I'm jadded with that. Long story made short, being friendly and having harmless chit-chat led to this guy stalking me-it really changed the way I am with stragers now. I used to smile and talk, but now I give a quick nod and won't talk to strange men.

I've had that happen to me twice Backpack. Both were older gentleman, one of whom was my bus driver when I was a child. They took a liking to me after encountering me at work and both tried to get me to go somewhere with them. It's a good thing I've got brains in my head to handle the situation appropriately, as I'm sure you did as well.

It's so scary, isn't it, Zuri!? I don't know many people who know how it feels.....it makes you look over your shoulder EVERYwhere you go, I feel like such a paranoid person, but like my husband says, it's better to be paranoid than sorry you weren't later. I'm very glad you're smart and obviously handled those frightening situations well. Some people don't have the sight to see danger when it's upon them. Keep up with the safety!!
