V70 D5 163bhp (2005) Geartronic - expected fuel consumption?

What average fuel consumption could be expected on a V70 D5 163bhp (2005) with geartronic transmission?
Current mileage is circa 6K; does fuel consumption improve with mileage as on many diesel engines?
On a separate point the generic manual refers to the posible requirement for an oil cooler on automatic gearboxes if used for towing purposes, comments please?
