I am always telling friends here on myLot that I always have my digital camera with me at all times. Mainly because you never know when that one shot will come along. Well tonigh as I left to get my wife I grabbed my camera bag. About 2 blocks from my home a car had read ended a city bus that was stopped at a red light. The car was said to be traveling at 55 to 60 MPH in the 50 MPH zone. It did not hit the brakes but swerved just in time to just hit it with their left front end clipping the rear right of the bus. I'll add other photos later. The passenger was on the stretcher when I got there. He was a little banged up with a few minor cuts on his face from glass. He was on the back board with a neck brace and he seemed very calm. The FD had the Jaws Of Life working on getting the driver free. After about 15 minutes they finally got the door opened. She was also placed on the back board. Her face was cut very badly as she did not have a seat belt on. She had a neck brace also & waas complaining about severe head, neck, and back pain. They were taken by sepertate ambulances to the local hospital in fairly good shape at this time. I just got home and will hear more come morning I think as I saw a couple paper reporters there. I tried to sell my photos to one. HAHAHAHA!! No takers though. Anyhow seems everyone was okay so to speak. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

This may sound morbid but I would have loved to come across an accident like this. I am sorry the people got hurt so don't get me wrong. I used to be an EMT with my local ambulance service and its still "in my blood" to stop and help at an accident scene.

Jaws Of Life - The jaws of life in use at an accident near my home
Doesn't sound morbid at all. I always love a good wreck. Especially the ones withoput serious injuries. They had to cut the passenger out with the jaws of life. I've always loved watching them use that hydraulic wonder. Here's a shot of them using the jaws. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

The jaws of life sure is a mechanical wonder. Sometimes it makes a difference between saving a life or losing one. I've witnessed an accident once and watched them use it on the truck that literally got run over by a semi. Surprising, the driver of the pick-up truck walked away with just a major headache.

OMG!! Hope e1 on the bus was ok but I'm sure some had suffer whiplash or something with the speed of the car on impact. Will be praying for the driver and passenger of the car that they will come out of this ok. I don't care what anyone says...seatbelts save lives! Had the driver/passenger been wearing them, they might of been able to walk away with just a few bumps/bruises. I'm sure vivid pics will be posted as ppl respond.

Bus damage - Very minor damage to the bus
There was noone on the bus. It was the last one to the city from my suburb. Some times seatbelts take lives too. I will start a discussion about my life saving experience from NOT wearing mine at a later date. Here's a shot of thre minor damage done to the bus also. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

True but the majority of the time, they save lives. Is that gas I see on the ground under and behind the bus? Hope not cause that alone could of cause major problems. Glad to hear the bus was empty thou.

Those pictures bring back memories. Thats how my car looked after someone hit me head on. The firemen had to use the jaws on the car to get me out. Thankfully I had a seat belt on. I was still hurt, but I would have been smashed without the seatbelt. I ended up with deep bruises from the seat belt, my knees went in and tore up the dash. My face hit the steering wheel, my eyes swelled shut and horribly bruised. My wrist dislocated and I had to have surgery. Then to top it all off the guy who hit me didn't have enough insurance and I am stuck with medical bills and screwed up cedit from the medical bills. Overall I feel that Angels were watching over me, it could have been so much worse. I am happy that the people in the accident that you witnessed are ok. Hey BTW, how did you do at the casino on 7/7/07.

Hi Grandpa Bob, I'm so glad to hear that the people involved 'appeared' to receive non life threatening injuries. People's lives can be lost in seconds, and their loved one's lives ruined forever, by a careless moment on the road. I've never seen the jaws of life in action. I was once on a bus that was run into by a car. Everyone was okay, but it was still quite a shock. Great photos. By the way, did you get the PM I sent you earlier? I'm still not sure if my notifications are working correctly.

2 Ambulances - At the scene of an accident where 2 people were rushed with back & neck injuries.
Yes I got the PM but tried 4 times to respond and never went through. Here it is another day and I woke up to 2 mylot emails. Grrrr! Hahahaha!! Heres a shot of the 2 ambulances wating. They are taking the passenger on the stretcher into one. Can only see the last EMT though in between the 2 ambulances. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

I'm sorry to hear that you're having so much trouble with your PM's, notifications etc. It'd be great if the problem could be sorted out, as you're not alone in this, and even if you were, you need to have things working correctly. Thanks for the additional photo, and have a great day.

They were both very lucky to have struck a bus at that speed and still be carried away while able to complain... I am surprised that no one wanted to purchase your photos..I think you have a natural talent.... I also carry my camera with me almost everywhere that I go....I purchased it a couple of years ago and now have family photos that are utterly priceless and could never be replaced...

I am glad you are OK. I am glad you came bay after the accident happend and not behind the cars so you would get involved. What happened to the people on the bus are they OK? I will look at your photo and rate it. Once again I am glad youa are OK.

I think we all 'forget' the dangers inherent in hurtling around at speeds in a tonne or so of metal. The state of their car just goes to show what can and will happen. I can't help thinking "What if it were a person on the road rather than the bus?" A lesson for us all I think. Good on you for trying to sell your shots - if you don't try you'll never succeed!

Where I live, the main road has seen a lot of accidents. Every time it rains I hear sirens going on left and right, seems people don't know that you need to slow down. It takes me a good 15-20 minutes to get home on a normal day from grocery shopping, accidents tends to make it longer because of the road is only a two laner. I have seen two major accidents on that one road. One was really bad, a guy was laying in the road, alive but really messed up. The other was just as bad. I have seen others but not on the same road. A car hit a truck so hard the front end was pushed all the way back toward the back end. So that person had to deal with causing an accident and a speeding ticket, because that spot is where the cameras are for speeders. You can always try CNN, if they buy pictures. I see on there a lot that they show pictures that regular people take. They have to pay those people something to put there pics up on tv.

Wow—I hate coming up on accidents- always makes me feel pretty sad- just not knowing- and I won’t stay around long enough to watch them- I’m not one for blood and injuries- I mean if I was the first one there- I would call for help and get out to see if I could help- but if the ambulance and cops were already there- I just drive by and try not to look- Glad to hear they were all ok—People have to be more cautious!

WOW! What a mess! I can't imagine how bad it would have turned out if they had hit the bus full on with the front end of the car. I seriously doubt they would have lived through it. It goes to show that seat belts really do help to save lives, and if the passenger had been wearing hers, maybe she wouldn't have been so badly hurt. I hope they are ok, as well as the passengers on the bus.

I've heard that some of the most popular photos and in demand are accident type photos - you might also try places like large insurance companies or smaller magizines. I am still working on taking my camera with me - I'm just not used to having one (just got mine a few months ago) but know I've missed a lot of great shots because it was sitting at home :(

Bah, you do good to take your digital camera always with you! I'm planning on getting a ceel phone with camera, so I won't miss anything. :) And by the way, My dad had a car crash a few years ago, when a van hit his car and threw it to the other side of the road. I should get the pictures of the car after the accident and scan them any of these days. No-one believes someone could survive that accident, but my dad is still here, only with a few scars on his legs. Cheers, my friend!

GRANDPA BOB! CHEERS! Here's a link you might enjoy. My friend Ursula from my Flickr world is a photography student and she caught this op while in traffic. If you read the comments posted, she caught a lot of slack for putting it up on Flickr. It became quite the controversy. Me? I don't see anything wrong with it. http://www.flickr.com/photos/aquatic_skies/278848781/in/set-72157600114525985/

That is really an opportunity to get such photos - I always wondered how do the media people get photos of all incidences, they can be everywhere - like the WTC tower incidence

How long have seat belts been around now. In Australia you can be fined and lose points off your license if you or your passengers are not wearing seat belts. Guess what can happen if you don't wear a seat belt??? See Bob's photo.

I have seen a few of these kind of accidents myself not the actual accident but the after math. I live by a very busy intersection and they are frequent there have been people killed in the intersection. Do they put up signs saying fatality where you come from? Where I live when someone has been killed there will be a sign posted saying this. There is a few around my city. By the way great shot.
