several years ago, people around the world were asked to nominate new sites for the Seven Wonders of the World. nearly 100 million votes were cast, and the results were announced saturday. the pyramids of Giza, the only surviving structures from the original seven wonders of the ancient world, were assured of retaining their status in addition to the new seven after indignant Egyptian officials said it was a disgrace they had to compete. completing the list of the world's eight wonders are: -great wall of china (china) -ancient city of petra (jordan) -statue of Christ Redeemer (brazil) -machu picchu (peru) -pyramid at chichen itza (mexico) -colosseum (italy) -taj mahal (india)
