It seems that the Democrats and some LiberalRepublicans are very concerned with the number of Deaths in the Military due to the Iraq War and they should be, because all life is precious. If you look at the death rate (http://siadapp.dmdc.osd.mil/personnel/CASUALTY/Death_Rates.pdf) since 1980 (last year of President Carters(Nobel Peace Prize Winner) Administration) you will see that we lost more Military Personal in that one year than we did during the first 3 1/2 years of the Iraq and Afganstan war. This was after 4 years of cutting the military budget, cutting back on training and not keeping up the required maintainceon vehicles and equiptment. That didn't seem to bother the Democrats back then or during the Clinton Administration when the death rate was higher than now for partof the time. Despite what the media would have us beleive the self inflicted deaths are also down to lower than either the Carter or Clinton Administration.
I think it is time we had some honest reporting by the media and lets have Congress apply the same standard totheir behavior and progress as they want from the Military. Congress gave their word (for what that is worth) that they would not take any action to interfer in Iraq until they ot the reports back. According to the report the Iraq Policy has acheive almost 50% of benchmarks set by Congress. What is the congressional report card look like. All the things that were going to be done in the first 100 days. They acheived 1 and that was increasing the minimum wage (except in American Soma and the Tuna Industy{Home Office in San Francisco-Nancy Pelosi District}), Earmarks are now put in after a bill has been approved so they can't be stopped, They did rename several Post Offices and Federal Buildings. No ethics Legistation has been passed. They want the president to open his office to them to look at what ever they want but fight a search warrent issued by the Court. The preident answers to them and they answer to no one. There is no immigration legistation passed.

This is a war worth winnig. We cannot lose, the alternative is not acceptable. What if we leave, then a blood bath begins. What if we leave, and Iran takes over. What if we leave, and it become an AlQaeda stronghold. If we leave AlQaede does win, even if you do not agree with that. I do not like it when American troops die, but last time I checked that does happen in war. We are at war even if some people do not want to acknowledge this. Terrorist will not leave us alone. It does not work that way. The terrorist hate us, no matter if we are there or here. It would be better if we stay over there to keep the terrorist over there. We can win if we have the collective will to do so. Do not count on the liberal media on reporting the new without being bais.

One of the ways to fight an Idelogy is to show them a different way. Look how the cold war ended, people began to see a different way of life. With the internet, radio, television and other ways to communicate across borders people are learning that things can be different. If we can establish a government controled by the people in Iraq then the neighboring countries will see how it can work. About 2-3 years ago when the Iraqi were voting and having a say in their government, the Arab League(almost all were rulers from countries that had a Royal Family or a Dictator) met and every made a statementto the press how they were going to give the people some say in the government. It might have been just an advisory council or in somecased people could elect local officals. This tells us two things. First what happened in Iraq would effect all people in the area. Secondly, the leaders could see the hand writing on the wall that their time was limited and if they didn't change then the people would forcably change the structure of government and it might not be god for them. If the Iraqi government fails and the Religious Leaders take over the people and the world will suffer. To quote Winston Churchill Democracy is a very poor form of Government, but it is the best we have had so far.

I agree that the only way to fight an ideology is to use education to try to alter it. I hope Iraq gets a govenment for the Iraqi people and run by Iraqis. However, there are fundamantalist Muslims and terrorist groups all over the world, not just in Iraq. Furthermore, it is not easy to convince people who are already brainwashed that another weay of life would suit them better. It's not impossible, but it is going to take a massive amount of determination.
