HELP! neighbour's cat using my backyard as latrine!

Canada
July 11, 2007 12:13pm CST
My neighbour's cat has fallen into the nasty habit of using my back garden as his own personal latrine--he pees on my covered barbecue and does his number 2 all over the ground. This cat belongs to the same neighbour whose roofers woke me up one morning hammering on his roof right outside my bedroom window at 6:30 in the morning! Would you know of any way that we can keep the b****r (the cat I mean here) out of our back garden without harming him? I am really upset and you know how hard it is to get the odour of cat pee out of tarp??!! That barbecue cover was not cheap either! Thanks in advance for your help... :-{

Pepper dust around the areas he frequents, and around the edges of your garden, may do the trick - cats find this unpleasant and like to avoid it if possible.

Hi Seagoddess! Bad cat ha...lol..I don't have much experience with cats. So my suggestion would be to try to talk with your neighbor about his cat. He/she should be more responsible with their pet. Because he is really causing a lot of trouble to you my friend. And you have been too kind already. I hope your problem will be solve soon. I missed you! Take care! I hope you'll have a great day! Depending on your budget,you could get a sprinkler with a motion sensor..would scare the heck out of it and i doubt it would come back.I have also been told that cats arent too fond of the smell of citrus so maybe some orange oil or citronella put araoun where it goes might deter it.Cats wont do their business where the smell isn't right.I have also seen a decorative feature for the garden that is used to scare cats away..it's a black cat shaped silouette with refective eyes..makes the cat think there is another scary looking cat living there!Hope these ideas help.

I never cease to be amazed that cat owners think everyone in the neighborhood is overjoyed to have a cat roaming around. You should confront the neighbor, detail the damage done, and ask them to keep their cat under control. If they refuse, I'd trap the cat and call the pound to come pick it up. After the neighbor has had to pay $45 to get their cat back, they may get the hint. Our neighbor's cat kept getting in my back yard and getting treed by my dog. They would send their kid over to ask me to hold my dog off so their cat could escape. I told him that it wasn't fair to my dog to be pinned up in her own yard and that I would only do it the once. Amazingly, they've been able to keep their cat out of my back yard. It just takes the right incentive.

It's really rude of people to let their animals roam around unattended. We had a neighbor whose dogs did their duty on our front sidewalk --thankfully they are no longer here. I think you should be able to find some kind of spray at the pet store to dispel the cat. Also try ordering a load of sand and have it delivered anonymously in your neighbor's front yard (snicker).
