many accuse me that i was never trully religious. i take offense to that, because, i was 100% theist. i debated with atheists all the time. They accuse me of not "truly" knowing god and i think that is very ignorant of them. how can they even say that? but anyway, i miss god. i miss the false sense of security. i understand why some people believe, no matter how illogical (IE believing in free will, destiny AND an omnipotent god). i understand the fear of the unknown. however, i also understand that there must be a better reason than just god. i truly believe that if your an educated person, with any sort of REAL college degree and you believe in god i think its only because of the security it brings, and nothing more. this is in the case of religion, not god. however, in an atheistic point of view it seems laughable that some people would believe in these things, its just like believing in santa or the easter bunny. in my view, if there was a god, either he is not omnipotent and has no consciousness OR that he is able to do the impossible and create contradictions that our human minds cant comprehend. So, i think that if there was a god, either it is pantheism or all religion is wrong. Because those are the 2 remotely logical things that could happen. because of this, i am an atheist. i dont think i will ever regain that false sense of security. i think im even happier now, because i know that i have only one life to live, and im not wasting time doing unnecessary things to please an unnecessary illogical malevolent/non-omnipotent god. i really do think religion is the downfall of man and it is the polar opposite of free thinking. but what do you think? what kind of theist are you? why did you choose your theism? do you agree with what i said? why or why not? do you think that i was ever a real theist? why?

By grace God will share us. In His mercy not by our good deeds that we are saved. That is why religion leads our way to the grace we need. I do not think it is right not to be religious. I think it is better to by doing the right things. If sins are commited, God can forgive as long as we ask for HIs forgiveness and we repent. I am a Christian and into the doctrines of Roman Catholic church. I do see alot of human mistakes in or out of any religion. But I always focus on my faith in GOD, towards being His instrument in helping others. God bless!

I agree with so much that you have said...for example, how ppl can make such ignorant comments like "you were never a Christian" or "you werent REALLY/TRULY a Christian" and the favourite one "you never truly knew God" is absolutely beyond me...How in the hell could ANYONE know HOW religious I was (I was a Christian yrs ago) and really how in the hell could ANYONE POSSIBLY KNOW what MY relationship with God was like other than ME AND GOD?! The arrogance of some ppl (and notice they are usually so called Christians themselves LOL) is unreal at times..... Now I've not been Christian for a very long time but unlike you I dont miss anything about it...least of all that false sense of security....I think thats one of the key reasons my current spiritual path is SO fitting for me...there is no putting your life, soul, blah blah blah in anyones or anythings hands but your own....I'm responsible for me..there is no battle goin on in my head, heart or soul (Devil on one shoulder, God on the other type battle)...So the security when its there isnt false since its all real in the world around me...just like the lack of security when it pops up is real...Make sense... I also have to fully agree with your comment that religion is the downfall of man and the opposite to free thinking....Another reason why I'm NOT religious LOL Spiritual? YES Religious HELL NO! Good topic fighting..

You totally have no clue as to what it is truly all about. You have a false idea of it. You treat it as if it were some kind of label. It is about a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and having the awesome assurance of His presence with us constantly. It is NOT a false sense of security. He is very real and His love for us is very real. I cannot tell you how much the Lord has blessed me in my life! His goodness is so beyond measure! God is good...ALL of the time! God bless.

yes, i also have a relationship with the easter bunny. he makes me feel good when i feel sad and i pray to him. he talks to me all the time and assures me that im going to heaven if i follow his rules. some of his rules are like the rules in the bible. one is much like Deuteronomy 13:7-11 which says that i should kill non-believers of the bunny. you see spring, this is what you kind of sound like to me.

Please bear with me as I want to give you my honost opinion. Please do not feel offended by opinion, read it as an opinion and if you want to, you can set it aside or think about it for a while. You are correct when you say that religion is destroying mankind. God never wanted us to be religious. He wants us to have a living, growing relationship with Him. He calls all who believe His children. You have mentioned the same in a discussion you responded to and I gave a a bit of an answer there. It is my personal opinion that you do not have true certainty about your dicicion to be an athiest. Why did you stop believing. What happened? Remember that if you have a relationship with a person, it is between you and that person. Others might want to have their say and critics might want to interfere with your choice of relationship. At the end it is just you and the person you are having a relationship with. My relationship with God is between me and God. I believe very strongly in that relationship and I do have the peace that pass all understanding, which the Bible speak of. Nothing can be said or done to change my mind. I have seen to much to not believe. I do not judge you. Every person has the right to choose for themself, as long as that dicision is made out of rational thinking, and not due to imotions or influence from negative people. Can you honostly say that you are satisfied with your dicision. Only you will know the answer. You do not have to answer to me or anyone else, just yourself. Blessings.

"You are correct when you say that religion is destroying mankind. God never wanted us to be religious. He wants us to have a living, growing relationship with Him. He calls all who believe His children. " I honestly think that if there turns out that the Christian God DOES exist...he'd be pretty p!ssed off at what the church has done....I dont think for one second that ANY god intended for his/her words to be distorted, abused, misused and twisted into such cruel hatred the way much of it unfortunately has been....Religion is definately a huge factor in how screwed up society all over the world is and I think that if God exists...he is NOT pleased and the ppl who THINK they have it goin on and are in with the big guy are up for a HUGE surprise when all is said and done should it be real ya know...

Dear fightingistheonlyway, I think you arrived to your actual worldview because of the kind of religion (Christianity, wasn't it?) you learned to know. There is a kind of good intentioned fancy, that many people live in all their live. If this leads them to live as pleases God, why not?). But there is also a very false, hypocrite side of religion, a sort of make believe and mental pattern, that does more harm than good. Somebody educated in this way will eventually discover its hypocrasy and protest very energetically to free himself. I understand this because I went this way from the other side. After decades of philosophical atheism, I had to accept God's truth, I woke up inside the sheepfold of Jesus Christ. You can't imagine how I struggled to get out, how I fought to the last argument, and how I had to admit that to be Christian was an entirely different thing of what I had thought and what so many think it is. So, perhaps, your last word is not spoken. Perhaps our temporal apostasy is a necessary phase of the process, something we have to go through in order we can evolve into more conscious believers. These were so often the very best of Christians that come to God through doubt.

to tell you the truth, Christianity is by far the most illogical religion and it is the easiest religion to debunk. islam is a lot harder.. and no, i was never [mainstream] religious, just a theist. if my last word is spoken it is either pantheism, atheism or the idea that god is much greater than we can even conceive, however, in all 3, the idea of any sort of popular religion is not valid. i have no idea why any REAL atheist would go back into a religion such as Christianity. many have gone down more spiritual paths but nothing as illogical as that. i really do think that religion is the downfall of man, if reason is not present. And so far, it is the downfall of free thinking, thats for sure. if your a real christian, you should believe in the literal truth of the bible, because if not, then that means your a hypocrite from both sides. you either believe that the world is 6000 years old like it says in the bible OR you accept the logical reasoning that it is much, much older than that. for me, you cant call yourself a christian if you dont believe the world is 6000 years old, this is because a christian is one who follows the teachings of Christ, which, are found in the bible. i really doubt that any real atheist would go to be a believer, and assume that you were were agnostic. a real atheist is one who goes about debunking every myth of religion through logic and reason, because logic does not go hand in hand with faith. thanks
