Why did you become vegetarian?

Two weeks ago, I decided to become Lacto-Ovo-Vegetarian because I decided to read about vegetarianism and what I read shocked me. So what made you become vegetarian and how long have you been vegetarian?

I've been a vegetarian for about 8 years. I'm careful about where I get dairy products from same with eggs, I make sure I get them from a local farm where I definately know they are free range. Milk is another sore issue as veal is a product of milk production. I'm very careful where I get my meat from. I'm also very careful with any products that might have animal parts in like cheese, chocolate, mousse. It seems everything has it in nowadays. I just don't agree with the consumption of animals.

Hi. Before my daughter was born 13 years ago I gave vegetarianism a shot, and went L/O during my pregnancy. I added meat back into my diet slowly, but in April of this year I came back to a veggie way of life. I love animals, but health issues are responsible for my return. I eventually hope to go vegan and more often than not most of my meals are. When I find a good brie alternative, I'll stop eating dairy altogether. Eggs are rarely on my plate, and cheese is the only dairy item I have regularly.

I might not be the right person to answer this, since I'm not a full vegetarian (not yet atleast) but I figured I'd give it a shot. I started to plan in more and more vegetarian dishes in my meals because it makes me feel healthier, is a lot more affordable and it's a bit of a challenge to think of new dishes when you can't use meat or fish. At this time I eat meat or fish twice a week, but I intend to bring it down even more and maybe even eliminate it in the future. I've been doing this for a couple of months now, and the vegetarian meals increase for every week.

I have been veg for seven years now. Since I was about 10 I was curious about it, and then at 19 I took a course on environmental studies, learned about factory farming (raising wheat to feed to farm animals, desertification, pollution from ranches, etc.) and from then on I became a vegetarian. It just didn't make sense to eat meat anymore, it's unsustainable.
