I prefer to buy used cars. I learned the hard way how much you can get ripped off by buying a brand new car. Of course when I bought I brand new car is was in 1999 and I bought a Ford Escort. Big mistake I know. Fords lose their value very fast. I was upside down in that car until the day I got it paid off. Every since then I've sworn I would never buy a brand new car again. While the warranties are nice they only last for so long. And then after they expire that's when the problems begin. The next time I get a used car I would prefer to get a Honda or something along those lines that will hold it's value and drive forever. So do you prefer to buy new or used cars? What influences your choice?

I usually buy whatever the best kind of car I can afford. My last two cars have been new. The two before that were used since I was a teenager.

I prefer to buy used car, but the one that still have warranty. I find that when you buy a new car, you will lost quite a lot in terms of the value of the car.

I swore the same thing. I will never buy brand new again. I bought a 2002 chevy Z24 and not even a year later when I needed to up grade because we had a baby I was offered $6000 (I paid $25 000). I went back to the dealership that I bought the car and they offered me a really crap deal; I do a turn back, meaning I take a credit hit as if the car was repoed and they lock me into a used grand am. As it turned out my house flooded and I got insurance money for loss and damage so I bought a 2000 venture and my husband is driving the car for work. I am so bummed about my experience with a new car Next time I will let someone else eat that loss.

Well, we used to buy Used and then we ended up having one that cost us way over $3,500 in repairs in just like 2-3 months. We had to refinance our place in order to be able to pay off the Loan we borrowed just to fix that Car. It was a Chevy Beretta, and we Loved it at first until it became the hugest nightmare you could ever imagine. So since then, we have stuck with New. The biggest problem was the first Car we bought they charged us too much, and ripped us off on the Contract, to where we are still paying a little too much for the Car we have now. But we are on our 3rd Subaru Forrester, and personally if you ever want to own a Great Car, Subaru is the way to go. But eventually, we have considered getting a Toyota Yuris. But that will have to be a little bit of a wait, and Yes, it will be a Brand New one when we do make the switch. We personally prefer New all the way.

My second hand car is efficient and almost mainten - These days, we could not really afford to buy brand new cars, so we scour and watch for second hand cars and grab the opportunity, especially if the car is in good running condition. My Nissan car is almost maintenance-free...efficient and durable...it has already withstood the test of time...
In our case, it's not a matter of preference--it's really a matter of whether we can afford to buy a brand new car or not...more often than not, we can't, so we settled down on second hand cars; mine is a nissan sentra, my husband's double cab pick up is an Isuzu, which is sturdy and gives you more value...in fact, for me, both of our cars are 'good buys' even if they are second hands. My son's car is a Toyota Altis, and it is more comfortable and reliable of course...My good old Nissan is also efficient; no major problems on maintenance; it's as if I could drive on it forever...Our choices of cars are usually influenced by my husband's choice because he is an 'expert' when it comes to four wheel vehicles...whatever he says, goes...

I think my choice is mostly out of habit as I have never ever bought a used car. One was a Ford Mustang and I had it for 12 years. I have had new Nissons, VWs, BMWs, Fords and settled with Chevrolets they have been my last 5 cars and I have no complaints. My exes have always bought used cars or trucks.

Any new car, no matter what it is loses their value as soon as you drive it away from the dealership...I would much ather have a used car anyway, or fairly new, that way its at a great price.

I think I would rather buy a used car, in my case I am going to buy a used modify car. Usually modified cars are cheaper than buying a new one and modify it yourself, you can buy a modified one for between $2,500 and 10,000 (depending). I would only buy a new car if it was worth it, like a Viper then yea. I learned from my economics teacher that if you are going to buy a NEW car go to different car dealerships and get the cars priced, then go back to each one and say "so-and-so is offering me this can you give me a better deal?" You will be likely to knock off a couple thousand or more. But I would stick with used cars.

Actually ~ I've started using public transportation & I prefer it to either. I don't like to have the responsibility & liability of owning & repairing a car.

I have never had a new car. I always get used ones. My first car was a Ford Granada which I loved. It was old but lasted me 3 years and I drove it everywhere. My second car, a Oldsmobile Ferenza, was related to 'Christine' if you have ever seen that movie. It would die going 55 down the highway without warning. The mechanics could never find what was wrong with it. Then I got a Chevy Caprice Classic, which I loved but after 3 years the axel broke and a rear end couldn't be found for it. I am currently driving a Mitzubichi Galant me sister and her husband gave me. The only one I wouldn't buy now is an Oldsmobile. As long as the car runs I like it.

I tend to buy used car but not to used. Only maybe two or three years older. My dad and brother usually come with me too when I look at cars so they can check them out for me (I know NOTHING ABOUT CARS! lol) But they have always told me to buy used because then the kinks are already out of them :)

I just Buy my first car, it is a Audi A4, i buy it new on leasing! Im just before about 8 months end my collage, and now 6 months i working in the bank! I get these great Leasin whit NO INTREST from my bank, and i chose a Audi! If you cant chose betwen a new and used car, i think that you defenitly shuld chose a new car, and if you would like to change car for every 4-5 years leasing is great way to do this!

I've never bought a car myself, my father always helped me. But, I've heard that if you buy a new car, never trade it in until it ends their natural life driving it, because you will end up saving the most money in repairs. I've also heard that always buying slightly used cars will end up saving you the most money, though you have to replace them sooner since they have less period of life. Anyhow, I don't know if these theories are good enough.

I prefer new cars, always!! I remember whjen I was thinking of getting a used car, the price difference wasn´t so much between the used car and the new one. Thats why I prefer a new one, as also I like to have a guarantee (in my case, I had a two year guarantee, and that is one of my main influences on getting a new one). Greetings!

As a beginner, when you start learning a car and have just got your license, then I think its better to get a Used car and drive it until you are comfortable in handling the car. Once you have gained the expertise to handle a car, then you can go ahead and buy a new Car. But cost of maintenance for the Used card are more than the New car, which should be considered when buying a car.

I love to own a brand new car if only I have the big amount of money but since I don't have, it's okay also if that is a used car. There's nothing wrong with it as long as you know what it's like.

I prefer new cars. I never know what will be wrong with old cars. The old car looked ok but after driving for a while, I need to spend a sum of money either on the tyres, engine, etc. It just gets on my nerves. So far, I had the most trouble with old cars. One thing good about old car, I don't feel that bad when I accidentally knock the car. :P
