Have you had hyperthyroidism during pregnancy?

I'm almost 4 months pregnant and have been suffering from hyperthyroidism since I was in college. My doctor told me that my conditions puts me under a high risk pregnancy, since the medications I'm taking (PTU) cross the placenta and may have side effects on the fetus. It was really distressing to hear from the doctor the possible side effects on my baby: Decrease in thyroid function, slow mental growth, even threatened abortion. One of the symptoms of my sickness is the palpitations. Normal heart rate is around 80-90, while mine could reach 130. The doctor was hesitant in giving me Propanolol, the heart drug, since it may also have serious side effects on the baby, like her heart not forming properly. But she said she has to treat me first because the risks on me far outweigh those on the baby. It seemed like I was stuck between a hard place and a rock. I kept crying because I felt that I put my baby at risk due to my condition. This is my first baby and I would do anything to save it. The only thing I could do is pray and rely on God that my baby would be ok despite all the meds I'm taking. Anyone with the same dilemma? Another problem I'm faced with would be not being able to breastfeed once I give birth since the drugs go in the milk. I can't help feeling depressed everyday, specially since I can't work anymore coz my doctor ordered total bedrest.
