Do you agree? I am living in Malaysia and if I convert MYR100 into pounds, I would have very little cash in hand. But MYR100 can buy so many things here. For example an instant noodle in my country cost 50 cents if bought in bulk. This means I can buy 200 packets of instant noodles. If in London what can I have with MYR100? My brother just went there last month. He told me a cinema ticket costs him 8 pounds. Here one ticket costs MYR8 also. But MYR8 is not the same with 8 pounds. So what do you think? Is London an expensive city?

I think u can't directly calculate the currency different and state how expensive is the city compared to Malaysia. You still have to consider what are average income they are earning per week. Their living standard and their education institution are different too. Else, malaysian won't spend hundreds of thousands sending their child to study in the england.

Except Japan and Brunei, any asin's currency is too small when it is converted into European or US currencies. The standard of living is so high and so also the cost of living. A haircut in Malaysia or in India will be less than $1, but in USA, the haircut will be anywhere between $25 to $50 and the $2 or $3j. Similarly a break fast in Asian countries cost less than $1, but in USA it is around $3 and in Europe it is between $5 to $10. The cost of labour is very high there in western countries and hence including agricultural produce all costs are high. In Asian countries because of low cost of production, the prices are cheaper. An US citizen who wants to stay in India for one month, he can stay with his 3 days of US wages for one month, quite luxiriously.

London is one of the top cities in the world, so it is living standard and consumption relatively are higher than many other big cities. Especially its currency Pound is the strongest in the world, even stronger than US Dollar. Then you can imagine how expensive it is in London.

I think London is one of the country who have a high cost of living. It is expensive to live in London, however if you were working in London it is just the same. You earn Pounds and spend pounds. In Malaysia you earned MYR and spend MYR, so i think it is just same, unless you will save money from London and spend in Malaysia, the value of pounds will be greater.

I've never been able to understand how the average londoner can actually afford to live in London.Of course people can live frugally, but he cost of houseinga nd transport is so hight that I don't really understand how anyone can live there without being permanantly in debt. Its bad enough making ends meet over in Wales, every time I visit London though I am staggered by how much things cost.

yes, i totally agree with you that London is indeed an expensive city even though i haven't been there before... but i had heard about what people say about the country... it is indeed very very expensive... that's why i choose to move to aussie rather than U.S. ... it is expensive here too but not as expensive as London...

London is an expensive city and the people that live and work there get paid alot just to be able to survive. My country is also very expensive, however i do belive that London is more expensive.

Well I live in London, and was born and brought up here, so I guess it's hard for me to say because I'm used to it. Of course prices here are higher than in the Far East or Asia for example, but then our wages are comparatively higher and our standard of living too, so it is all comparative. I know that I am always confused by people here talking about earning from MyLot because I could never, EVER live for one hour on what I could make here on MyLot in one month!!!! The amount you can earn in a month here at MyLot is about the same as one hour's pay here in London and most people work 37 hurs a week or more, so it is all relative!

Yes, it is an expensive city. When we were in the UK, we would budget our spendings as the currency exchnage rate is pretty high. We live modestly and not splurge on anything which we don't really need. We learn to make do with what we have and eat at home most of the time. Once in awhile we would eat out.

I found London expensive when I went there, mostly because a pound is more than a dollar, so things cost more - something which is $2 here will be 2 pounds there. Still, I guess it depends how much you make - probably people who live in London also make more money, because they are paid in pounds.

Yes indeed London is costly as compared to other under developed countries but when you compare the salary and cost it is more or less same.

Of course, even a packet of tissue will cost you 50cents. Different countries had different standard of living.

yeah it very expensive really really expensive.. but people earning there also hight.. i ever heard people who cleaning in office get about more that 500pound a week.. it is not a month but a week.. i do not really remembered how much butsome like that.. so if you go for vacation it should be very expensive but if you work there so it just the same i guess.. :D but if you work there about more than 4-5 years when you back to malaysia should be millionaire.. :)

I do agree with you, but guess it is the same whatever major city or capital you are going to. I live in denmark on the very remote countryside and find when i go to copenhagen that the cost is at least 25% higher there than in my hometown.
