Beleive it or not my 13 year old wanted me to ask this question what happens if someone can not get a uniform (polo shirts and khakis) she is worried becasue some of her friends are really poor. What would happen if a child could not afford a school regulated out fit?

its nice of your child to show concern with regards to the plight of her friends. usually the school has facilities for this kind of situations.

That is sad. It looks like the school would help out some how with the childern that can't afford the school outfits that are regulated.

Well, fortunatelly in Hungary children no need to wear uniform. When I was 13, I had to wear some blue mantle:( But if I could not buy the uniform, I would go to the school and ask the director (or who) that what can he suggest. I am sure that he would have a solution for me, and my child. But I think the uniform is needs only the schools where you must pay for the education too, or not?

Here in Australia there are heaps of places that you can get things from - a polo shirt can be bought cheap from most stores anyway but there are always 2nd hand places you can go to - even the Salvation Army should have some :) I think people also donate their 2nd hand items to the school so that the families who cant afford new uniforms can buy the 2nd hand ones through the schools. Here though, families are usually given extra money to go towards the necessities the children need for school items - books, uniforms, fees & things like that. I guess it all just depends on where you live & what kind of assistance you are able to get. You could always try friends & family too - other people you know of that have gone to the same school & have older clothes that they no longer need.

Usually the school has a special program to help underpriviledged families. Also, the stores that sell the uniforms sometimes offer similar programs. The family just needs to contact the school administrators and they will be helped. There are programs as well that offer used uniforms for discounted prices.
