Is there a dish you are known for among your friends or community?

For me it's my Salsa. It started out my brother in laws recipe, but I played with it a bit so now it's my own. As my son puts it, "it's how salsa should be". I don't think there is anything in it that isn't in other people's salsa, but it just tastes good and fresh. My daughter doesn't like it though.. because of the Cilantro, she says it "tastes too green". :~D What about you, what are you known for at the pot luck dinner, or game night with pass around dish?

Sounds like you've got the right stuff for salsa. I actually do a 7 layer bean dip that everyone always requests I bring to pot lucks when our friends gather. They love it, it's always one of the first items to get completely cleaned out (which is why I always make some for us at home). If not that, I have an old Jambalaya recipe from my grandmother who grew up in the South. It's become a popular dish, but not as popular as the dip. It's full of seafood, so it's a "hit or miss" prospect. People either like shrimp, mussels, crawfish, etc... or they don't. But I still bring that on occasion because I know there will be enough food there and if people don't like the seafood, there should be more than enough for them to eat.

Not a big 7 layer bean fan, but your Jambalaya sounds great! I make it too, but haven't unleashed it on my friends before... maybe it's high time. ;~D

I'm know for a variety of seafood dishes that I make. There's a seafood soup and a seafood cocktail. When ever we have get togethers I'm always asked to take one or the other.

Anything made with my spaghetti sauce. It can be Manicotti, lasagna, spaghetti whatever as long as it has my sauce in it. I have been even asked to bottle and sell it.

I love cilantro in salsa - or better yet, picco de gallo! I am "known" I guess for my sausage bread and tabouleh - nothing very elaborate.

My southwest chicken skillet. People frown at when they first see it... It's a mixture of chicken, salsa, pinto beans and veggies with crumbled tortilla chips and cheese sprinkled on the top...but once they try it, they're hooked.

I am famous with my satay. It is a type of grilled chicken or beef or mutton, and the meat is poked into a coconut leaf stick. (Here we call it 'lidi satay'). People in here like eating satay, but not many people how to make delicious satay. I've learned the recipe to make satay from a satay shop owner's daughter and I had the chance to help her with the selling. During that time she wanted me to help around so I thought that was the biggest opportunity I had to learn a special recipe for free. So I learned how to make satay from her own kitchen without her even realizing it I copied her recipe and all the tips included. I even learned how to make the satay gravy. She didn't teach me directly, I actually observed her every time she prepared it. Lol. After that I tried making it and all my relatives like it. When Hari Raya is approaching many of them asked me to prepare satay and its gravy because that was the only time they are able to taste my delicious recipe! Lol. Have a nice day, friend!

You betcha! I made a 'Taco Pizza' once when I had a party. Now, whenever I am invited to a party or a potluck I am asked, 'Please bring that taco pizza!' I took one to work one day when we were going to have a staff meeting and boy, it was a hit. Now, my co-workers ask me routinely when I am going to bring another taco pizza! It is basically a pizza pan with all the taco ingredients spread out and one dips into it with dorito=type chips. Sooo good!

Fresh salsa sounds good right now. I can make a mean fettucine tortelini, and a better than anything cake. I have not made them in a long time though. It is one of those you make it once and everyone asks if we can have it again and again and again... Guess I should find some new recipes to try.

Yes there is, its called mix ala kim, lol. This is very simple to make. You take some potatoes peel and cut in slices or dices after preference. Then you will need some meat, either fresh or leftover meat will do. Actually if you have left over meat from a couple of days this will be brilliant. Also you will need a couple of onions which you chop after temperament and finally a few cloves of garlic also choped or pressed after temperament. Pre-heat oven to about 200 degrees celcious, take a fireproved tray smear it wil oil on the inside . mix all the ingredience together with salt, peper, paprica/or curry and plenty of herbs and enough oil to cover all of the ingredience with a thin layer of oil. Put in tray and let cook for about 50-50 min. Remember to take out tray and turn the mix around 3-4 times in the process. This may sound a bit much work to do, but really it aint and the outcome is delicious.
