We know that there are many formats of video available in the market. And each has its own specialty. Given the same clip with the same screen size and resolution, which format is smaller? avi or mpg? any good converter to recommend for the smaller format of the two?

Thanks for the response. Appreciate it!! Hmm... those are good advice for downloading and converting the files for viewing in your PC. But it still does not answer the original question. mpg or avi has a smaller format for the same video file?

Well there is also more than one avi format. Xvid probably gives a smaller size(MB) than DivX for the the same screen size, etc. and both are better than mpg. WMV is usually smaller than any of those three. Ultra video converter isn't too bad to go to WMV, going to DivX and Xvid is harder and I can't really recommend a converter for that.

Thanks for the response! Appreciate it. hmm... I am looking at something to convert all my various formats to one common, smallest compact format for house keeping. So WMV is the smallest format for all the different formats out there? I have not tried converting to WMV before. Will go back and try tonite. Thanks again.
