Yeah, very much. In my college, the teachers dont punish the students, but for talking in the class and all that, the students will be punished by the HOD

If you mean smacking or hitting the answer is no not here. Our children are given detention, suspension or exspelled from schools here. Is this a good thing yes and no some children just dont care what they do to them but if they got smacked they might. Others get really upset about having one detention so a smack might just put them over the edge.

Years ago in my country boys used to get a hiding with a cane on the behind while touching their toes and girls were given strokes on the palms with a ruler. These days teachers are'nt allowed to hit a pupil. There is'nt much in the way of discipline here anymore. And school children often challenge their teachers.

Unattentive students need to be punished for their deeds, not necessarily physical. They can be asked to stand outside the class, if they do not listen to the teacher.

I believe the teachers might have the right to punish the student who misbehaves in class by disturbing and distruption lessons. However, I do not feel he has the right to punish one who never completes his homework. In my opinion, the teacher can punish the student because the student is in his care when he misbehaves. If the student does not complete his homework, it is the student's choice. The teacher should encourage him to complete his homework but cannot force him to.

I teach young children. In a class of 5 to 7 year old there will be a behavior program brought about by the head teacher. In one school there was golden time, one hour for a class reward on Friday afternoon. If a child was naughty he or she would have time taken away from this special time. They would sit on a chair for so many minutes not allowed to join in. In another school there was a 5 point scale: 1 a verbal warning, 2 a written warning, 3 ten minutes working in another classroom, 4 a visit to the head teacher to be told off and 5 the child was allowed a telephone call to tell their parents how naughty they have been. This head teacher changed her ideas for the next school she worked in. The next time she had a 3 card system: white a warning, yellow a serious warning (both of these meant a loss in golden time) and red a visit to the head teacher. Often she was not around so the child had to go to the deputy head teacher and he taught a class of 10 to 11 year olds. When I was at secondary school in the 1980s the head teacher hit students that were really naughty with a cane and detentions were also given out. This sort of violence is against the law these days but detentions are still given out. If a child does not complete homework their parents will be told. I like to reward good behavior and encourage naughty ones to be good rather than punish them. As I once heard the job is 'to catch them being good'.
