would you agree with me that david beckham made the biggest career mistake of his life by moving to America to play for the LA galaxy? beckham is already a soccer icon in Europe. he is moving to a country where soccer is not very popular. he will also be playing for a team that is not very good. the expectations seem too high. he has to both lift a struggling team and promote an sport that is not very popular in the US. his career move is really a great pity.

After the LA Galaxy were thumped 3-0 by Mexican club Tigres in a friendly on Tuesday,Beck will now face an uphill task. Beckham's first appearance is scheduled for the Galaxy against Chelsea on Saturday. But there is a doubt bout David,as his ankle is swollen. They claim he was watching the whole game helplessly from a corporate hospitality suite in the company of club president Alexi Lalas. He would have been much better and popular if he was still with Man.U.

PoOOOor Beck! I only wish for him that he is not 'boot-kicked' at again by another Sir Alex,if he fails to deliver. I will watch out for him.

Well so far they've sold quite a few tickets to their games, but how long that will last remains to be seen seeing that the NFL and MLB are their main 2 priorities. I don't know what other teams where looking to sign him but I've no doubt that he was offered a lot of money to go to LA. And they have some friends over there like Tom Cruise that will help ease them in.

the sad thing is it shouldn't have been because of the money. soccer is just not so popular in America. if he fails to boost galaxy or make the game even remotely popular..... well, that could be tragic for his career. i heard he signed up for galaxy when he was in a bad light with Real M and the national team. i hope he performs well in galaxy

Yeh I think it's a mistake but everyone has their price. I think they would like to make soccer as commercial in the US as it is in other countries, but as popular as Backham may be, I don't think they will be able to do that with one guy. And I may be wrong but soccer just doesn't seem to fit the American culture - you know, it's not such a tough guy game. It would be like trying to get rugby supporters to follow football, it just wouldn't work.

i agree 100% but i pity beckham. i think the bigwigs behind galaxy are expecting too much. you mentioned commercializing soccer. well that's too much of a load for one guy. $32 million doesn't seem to cover such a big expectation. poor guy.

i don't think he will make soccer what it is in europe but it will get more media coverage and more attention than it has in the past.
