Five years ago , I was watching a movie called a blast from the past. There is this scene where Brendan Fraiser made a fortune thru his baseball cards. That is where I got my idea collecting basketball cards. It was an expensive hobby. I promised to myself that if I ever got LeBron James Rookie Card. I'll stop. Luckily I got not just one but two different rookie cards from different trading cards company. I'll just keep it and hopefully it will yield a fortune.

Basketball cards are not a way to fortunes. Inevitably, modern cards will loose value. Even Michael Jordan's rookie card has dropped in value since he has retired. Collectors pay high prices for what is hot at the time. After they move on to the next in thing, prices drop on the previously hot cards. That is just how it goes. Investing in something that looses money is not a good idea. Invest in stocks instead.
That being said, collecting sports cards can be a very enjoyable hooby. The cards of your favorite players somehow makes you feel more involved in the game. You can buy some of LeBron's cheaper rookie cards for a few dollars such as his Bazooka or MVP issue. There is no law that says you have to spend thousands to have a nice collection. Collect what you can enjoy and afford.
