junk - garbage, trash, anything which has no value,
I think you're right in some point, but to tell you this, junk foods are foods which are only made to satisfy the taste of the consumer and has really no good or well known good effects at all to our body system, just like trash has no good value but instead making our body system worse, maybe junk food - any food which are those man made foods just to make our taste buds feel better, salts or any food enhancers, just like that, like hotdogs and burgers, those food are not good in our body especially hotdogs, but in hamburgers, or burgers I think the one which makes it not good is that it has enhancers or preservatives, thanks^^

I think the word junk food probably fits. By junk food, they're meaning foods that don't really benefit the body, they just taste good. Hot dogs can be classified as 'junk' because they're made with lots of nitrates (which are NOT good for you), and because they're made with bits and pieces of meat that would usually just get thrown away. Hot dogs are processed, which means loss of nutritional value. Just because some things are edible doesn't mean they are a quality/healthful/nutritious food to feed the body with.

They are called Junk Food because Hot Dogs, Burgers... They have no quality at all. They don't have any Vitamins, they are bad for your health, you know? Burgers will make you fat, and so will Hot Dogs. That's why they are called Junk Food. It has nothing to do with the taste.
