Romantic locations?

My boyfriend and I are looking to take a vacation for his birthday, mid October, the thing is we're clueless as to where to go. I'm more high maitenance and he's pretty simple, down to earth, so something in between is cool. I'm looking for something that's not very expensive yet nice maybe in the US or surrounding areas/islands? Has anyone been anywhere they can recommend going on a romantic getaway? Sights we should see?

You could try the beautiful area around Cape Cod. You might like to go to some of the lovely beaches along the Californian coast like Santa Barbara or San Diego. There are some gorgeous islands that I saw a boat went over to from a suburb of Los Angeles. You could also consider Canada. How about a trip to Prince Edward Island? I think Nova Scotia's coastline has some romantic places to go like Peggy Cove. Walking with a picnic to eat somewhere half way along the route might be a fun thing to do. In the evening you could treat your boyfriend to a nice meal. Where ever you decide to go I hope that you and your boyfriend will have a delightful time.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll look into them. I grew up in MA and we used to vacation in Cape Cod in the summers, great area. He loves California so that's another possible area too. Thanks!
