Which for you is a better pet: a dog or a cat?

I would just like to know what most people prefer for pets. I grew up with dogs and I've always loved them. I cannot remember anytime when we didn't have a dog in the house. As for cats, I cannot imagine having a cat for a pet. I'm sorry for cat lovers but I really don't like cats for pets. Its not that I'm mean to cats because I do help them when they're in need but I just can't have them for pets. What about you, which do you think is a better pet: dog or cat?

I love both dogs and cats but if I have to choose between the two, I'd choose a dog. One reason is that dogs are very faithful. Thay are very loyal. Dogs usually stay with their owners their whole life through. They remain true. Secondly, dogs are very cheerful and really lift up my spirit. The hearty welcome that I recieve from my pet dog(s) when I return home is quite something. My dog(s) really gladdens my heart and makes me feel good to know that there is someone who simply accepts me. Third reason is that I love puppies. They look so cute and cuddly that it melts your heart. Fourth, dogs are also very affectionate. They give so much of love to their owners and also heartily receive all the love and attention that they could get. These are some of the reasons why I prefer dogs to cats (although I love both).

That's amazing! 4 cats and 2 dogs? That's too much to handle for me. But you're probably good at raising pets. Don't your dogs and cats fight with each other. I just can't imagine. LOL. I wish I could say the same thing that they're both wonderful. I hope I'll get to know the beauty of having cats as pets.

I've had both and love both...for different reasons. Dogs tend to be more dependent and loveable, always by your side. Cats are more independent and want to be loveable when they want to be petted. I had my dog, Petey, for 10 years (he passed away last year) and now we have our cat, Morgana. I love them both. AT PEACE WITHIN

Human like pets, perhaps because they seemd very weak, so that the peole want to protect them, dogs and cats, I like both, however, if the two were compared , I think my favorite is dog.

Before I would have said dogs, since thats what I was brought up with, all was had a dog you see. My "big brother" was a dog. But now I say that cats are nicer and better, since they are more independent, they are not as clumpsy and so on!

Really? I guess I'm just biased because I never had cats as pets. I still can't imagine having them as pets but I hope someday I'll get to experience what you experienced. Thanks.

I prefer dogs. I can't stand the fur of the cat. I don't really like cats at all. I don't know why. I just don't like them since the world begun hahaha. We are the same. Most of my family do not like cats either.

I love them both, I love dogs and cats. I can't remember or a time when we didn't have multiple dogs and cats in the house! Until recently we had 7 cats and 4 dogs. We recently lost 3 dogs so we are down to 7 cats and 2 dogs (I know math doesn't add up, we adopted a new pup after we lost the other 3-didn't want the one left to be lonely). I am MORE of a dog person, but I still can't imagine life without at least one cat. When i move out of my parents house my plan is to have 2 cats and one dog. I want a big breed so I don't need to have 2 large dogs running around! lol. At least not right away =P I may have two dogs in the future!

its funny that you posted this, since just last night i found 4 little kittens by the side of the road...they had blowfly eggs all over them and they looked really weak. i'm no cat person myself however i couldn't bear leaving without doing anything about them so i took them home. spent all night cleaning them up, and now they're sleeping inside a shoebox by the door... i think they're only a week old, eyes are not open yet, but they look so cute! my dog is at a loss at what to do with them. he wounldn't go near the kittens, and i think he's irritated at all the noise they make. anyway, to answer the question, love dogs, cats...so-so...hope i can find homes for the ones here. anyone interested in adopting a kitten? :)

I think it depends on personality of each person. I prefer dogs because i love their way to do, they need you and you need them, i love live with them, go to park together, go to holidays together ecc... Me too i cannot imagine having a cat, and i think cats don't love me very much!

hi there mermaid911, when I was a kid, we had two dogs. I used to like dogs then and would play with dogs when i see them. I played with neighbors dogs and friends dogs. Until one day, when a friends dog attacked and almost bit me if not for the intervention of a family member. I was also attacked one time when I went to a neighborhood one time and was harassed by a pack of dogs from that neighborhood. Since then, I only like cats.

Well I was bought up in a house with both dogs and cats, but for me it is cats all the way! I guess I am the revese of you - I would never hurt a dog and would always help oein need, but I have 5 cats and I love them to distration, and would never have a dog as a pet. Cats are clean and quiet, and independant. You can go out to work all day, and as long as you leave them water and dried cat food, they can go in an out of the cat flap when they please and entertain themselves. Dogs meanwhile, need exercise and walks, which isn't really feasible for someone who works full-time like myself and my partner. They would have to be locked in the house all day when we're at work, and that would be cruel. And - no - we couldn't leave them in the garden because they would probably try and jump over the fences into the street or into the neighbours' garden. They would also bark constantly which would upset the neighbours. So it is cats for me all the way!

I like them both but a cat comes with a nasty litter box. And all they do is eat, sleep and sh*t! Ya know. Dogs I love them they are more social I guess. Anyway, I guess I would say I like dogs better than cats.

I think dogs are better if you want a playful animal who will always do what you want because they are so obedient. Dogs do require a lot more work than cats do. Cats are more independent, but they can still be very affectionate but they aren't as playful as they get older. It really is a trade off but I like both.

I grew up with both cats and dogs, our family had our fair share of pets. As I got older and had less time for my furry friends I found that cats make much better pets. Dogs are just too high maintenance. They have to be walked several times a day, and just thrive on personal attention. I especially don't like large dogs as pets, unless you live on a farm or in the country. I currently have two cats, and find them to be independent, but still they often like to cuddle up on my lap when I'm just relaxing. There's no way I'd want a 50 lb dog on my lap. I have nothing against dogs, I just prefer cats as pets.
