Does it seem like people in some states are more friendly than in other states?

When you travel, do you ever notice how people in some states are friendlier than your state or some other states? It seemed to me in North Carolina that people are much friendlier there than they are in Delaware. Has anyone else noticed this or do people in all states seem to be just as nice or polite?

I think it's very true. I'm from MA but have been living in AL for the last 3 yrs. I've noticed that people in the South are a million times nicer than they are up North and it rubs off too! I never noticed how mean people are up North until calling back home for some documents I needed and I was like, wow was I ever that big a b**** when I lived up there. I asked around... apparently I was, lol. I think for me it's that life up North is so much more stressed and rushed then it is here in the South and all the stress just makes one edgy. Thats my 2 cents, geat topic!

I am glad that you enjoyed the topic and thank you for your great insight on it. I was only in North Carolina for a week and noticed pretty quickly how nice people are down there. I think that you are right about life in the North being more stressful than in the south. I may consider moving south at some point.

Just curious where in Mass are you from? I grew up in Holbrook but live closer to the Cape now.

I'm from Lawrence and grew up there and in Gloucester. I get so homesick sometimes, espcially for the beaches!

Hey, so I take it that you're back from your vacation? Did you enjoy Myrtle Beach? Yes, I must agree with you that people in NC and other states in the south are very friendly. I really enjoy staying here in NC. I've had complete strangers talk to me while waiting in line, shopping, etc. People here are very polite and helpful.

I am back from my vacation to Atlantic Beach, North Carolina. I had a wonderful time while I was there. The people were nice and kept pretty busy there. The humidity was awful but I survived. I really enjoyed parasailing as well as eating a lot of wonderful seafood at various restaurants like Amos Mosquitos.

I think people are nice and friendly all over. Look at Mylot, mostly everyone is friendly here, we have people from all over the world. I think when you are traveling and on vacation you are in a different mood, you are also meeting people who are traveling too. When you are home its the same thing day after day, reality. I think you meet the people you attract. If your friendly thats who you meet, if you are in a sour mood, that will be the type of people you run into that day. Its not like that always, but it is like that most of the time.

I have noticed that. I don't understand why. I do kind of, if you are in a big city with a lot of crime, but it doesn't hurt to be nice and have courtesy with people.

I wonder why people can not be nice in every state and city here as even though life might be more busier and stressful in a city environment, people can still be friendly as people anywhere else.

Actually, I noticed that when I got married when I was only 16 years old. I was born and raised in Central Florida. So, I was raised with good southern cooking and hospitality! :D But when I got married and we moved north to where he was stationed in the military...I come to realize that once we past Virgina...people were not so nice or friendly. Don't get me wrong. There are still friendly people in the northern sates. But nothing like what I was used to all my life. You could walk down the street and each person you pass you smiled and said hello to. When we lived in the north, getting someone to say hello or even smile at me that did not know me was like waving a milk-bone in front of an angry dog but not giving it up. They just were not happy! ha ha So, I prefer the south. :)

That's my fave thing about the south, that you can talk to anyone anywhere. You can strike up a conversation on a street or in line for something! Up North you really can't do that at all, in face people think you're weird if you so much as look their way. I can't get over how a simple move in location has totally changed my personality!

I have noticed this. I do have to say I live in one of the more friendly states, Tennessee. I have lived in Florida and encountered quite a few rude people. And Arizona wad pretty nice except for the people who got rude with me because I don't speak Spanish. And Hawaii was a very friendly state. Who wouldn't be happy and friendly living there?

When I lived in North Carolina about 30 years ago, I found that some people were friendly and others down right rude. You never know.

I sure can answer this one. I used to think the people in New jersey were rude til we moved down here. I keep hearing about that wonderful southern hospitality but I sure havent' seen it.

I'm sure their are exceptions to this, but as a general rule people in the South seem to be so much friendlier than in the North. I'm a northerner myself, but I have spent quite a bit of time in many southern states. It seems there is just a slower pace & friendlier people in the warmer states. Perhaps it's a freezing cold winters that make northerners keep to themselves & not be as outgoing with strangers.

Maybe I need to move to the south. I was never aware that people in the south were friendlier but I certainly noticed it while I was away.

I'm from North Carolina and I'm the one with the grandma whose van got keyed. Ha!:P I hear that a lot that people in NC seem to be pretty friendly. I don't really know. I haven't got to travel much. I guess we're okay until someone takes a parking space! Most people I know are nice. Good ol' Southern charm.
