How many times do you clean your ears using cotton buds? Did you know that it is not a good habit if we clean our ears everyday? I've read that cleaning our ears as often as everyday using cotton buds remove the natural wax of our ears. But there are instances that we cannot help but use buds to clean it. Sometimes when it feel icthy we use buds. Even after bath we tend to clean our ears with cotton buds. Sigh! even me I cannot refrain from cleaning my ears almost every after bath.

I have never heard the term, cotton buds, I thought you were going to talk about cotton in the fields.. I call them Q-tips, or cotton swabs..I use them and no we shouldn't stick them in our ears but we do..I don't do it everyday because some wax is good..

cotton buds are only supposed to be used on the outside of the ear, and not actually in the ear canal. even though thats where the wax builds up and gets itchy..lol and i always use them to clean that out. ive heard both a nurse and doctor saying that you're not supposed to put anything smaller than your elbow in your ear!! and they were very insistent about it too. how can you not though? i hate that feeling.

That's true and we cannot just resist to use it as deep as we can.

I always have to clean my ears right after shower. This is one of the regimens I do in my healthy daily living. However, I have just learned from health experts that cleaning you ears must be done with extra care so as not to destroy your eardrums and get any infections. Here are some general points about ear care I would like to share. 1.Don’t push anything down there, as it will only block the wax and cause trouble. So, don’t push your finger in there or use cotton buds to clean your ears. Never put cotton wool into your ear, even to try to keep the ear drops in. Just lie on your side to do this. The drops only need to be in your ear for a few minutes. 2.If you get any extreme pain, dizziness or ringing in you ears, see your doctor or practice nurse straight away before using any ear drops. 3.Try not to get water in your ears as it can get trapped behind the wax and lead to ear infections. I have always cleaned my ears daily with a q-tip. I have always had ear infections as well. It is not good for you at all to do that. I have had many doctors tell me to stop. I recently have lost my hearing temorary, due to fluid down inside my ears. I think this may be because of my ear cleaning, and I also use peroxide to clean them out sometimes. So avoid doing this please. Lol. I really wish I would have listened sooner and not cleaned them daily. I just wanna hear again.

Hi there. Yes you are right, its not a good idea to use or poke anything into the ear, but yet we still do it... You can go to the doctor to get waxed up ears cleaned right out and there are also drops you can buy for this... I also clean my ears after every shower...

I read in an article by a doctor who said that the cotton bud was never invented to clean ear canals but to clean superficial items or just surface wounds and to appply medicine.Small pieces or particles on the cotton bud tend to remain in the ear canal and that gives opportuniry for bacteria to breed and by using a cotton bud, the dirt in the ar is actually being thrust further into the ear canal, hindering it self-clearing process. Some people tend to thrust the cotton bud very deep into the ear and this may result in the damage of the eardrum and an operation may be needed to correct the problem. The doctor's advice is to use olive oil, just one or two drops into the ear once a month and the ear will actually cleanse itself, thereafter to use a tissue paper to clean just the outermost part of the ear.
