I am looking for a free site to learn italian. Mostly practicing phrases and a lot of vocabulary. I know that some are out there but you have to pay for them. I see mostly spanish course but not a lot of italian. So, do you know of some good ones?

Go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/italian/ Start at the Italian Steps. This is for true beginners. You will get the feel of the language and some basic phrases, after that go to the Talk Italian.

So far the only good one is the BBC one at http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/italian/ You can start with the Quick fix that give you a basic sort of spend a holiday in Italy, and then progress to the Intermediate state. It gives you a basic understanding. I learned quite a bit from them, as well as from watching The Godfather Movies and it seemed that I retained it better than the software course I am using right now. (Cannot afford the Rosetta Stone program right now.)
