If I start a discussion and someone else starts the same discussion 2 days later

what can be done about it?..I started one and got a few responses, under 10 I believe, and someone started the same discussion 2 days later and received over 100 responses..This doesn't sound right..I could see doing it a couple of months later but not 2 days later..What would you have done? This shouldn't be allowed, right? Tell me what you think, please.

I know exactly how you feel it has happened to me and I know that it absoltely pi55ed me off.. I suppose the only thing that you can do is report it because they state in their guideline to check/research the subject matter so that there are no double ups...

They had asked to be my friend and I approved them. It wasn't long after that the same discussion comes up. If it hadn't happened this way I would not have thought anything of it because it is kinda hard not to start a similar discussion. I research to make sure what I want to post isn't already out there. thank you.

Well, there are a lot of people on the site now, and the chances are much higher of our discussions being duplicated by others. Now if you think someone plagiarized your discussion, then by all means you should contact admin about it because it specifically says in the guidelines that no one is to copy another's discussions or responses. Hopefully it's just that the other member came up with the same idea separately from yours, and didn't copy you purposely.

This person requested to be a friend and as soon as I approved them, they posted the same discussion that I had done about 2 days earlier. I am thinking they looked at my profile, and the discussions I started and then requested me as a friend. It could just be a coincidence. But that is what happened. There are a lot of people and we all think of the same or similar things so it is very easy to start a similar discussion. I have been searching Mylot to make sure I don't repeat any discussions..

Theirs only a few topics I go to on here because I don't know them all actually I just found one today called question and answer, I never knew it was even here.. I am thinking maybe the person didn't see your post so they started one of their own. That can be possible.. I am not sure but I do go threw the topics and read and I try my best not to make the same post as someone else, all and only because I know I will get the same answers from it. I don't believe they tried to copy your idea or question. Though i am not exactly sure what I would think or say if it were to happen to me. Sorry this has happened to you.

I answered two posts that were the same based on a news report today and said in one of that them I had just answered a post similar to this. I don't know if there is anything you can do. Is the discussion exactly the same as your discussion? if so then I think you can report this. I am not sure as it has not happened to me before.

It wasn't word for word, but it was the same question..I make sure that the discussion I start isn't out there. I go to the mylot bar and put in what I would like to discuss to see if it has been out there. thank you..

The difference in response can be attributed to the number of friends and how active the person has been in responding to discussions. There could be other factors unknown. I share your sentiments over the number of responses but, in my opinion, there is nothing one can do about it except to establish friendship and reputation. To a certain extent, I think luck plays a part. I have seen new members moving up rather fast. If you think that the person has copied your discussion, you may report as abuse to mylot admin.

I was thinking about this after I wrote it, and I don't want to make any trouble. I just make sure that I check as best I can to make sure I am not repeating a discussion..because I wouldn't want to take away from others..thank you.

More than likely they didn't know that the discussion was already going. I know that I've put up discussions and hoped that they weren't already posted somewhere else. If it's an exact duplicate of yours then I'd PM the administration. Sometimes people think that they're presenting a different angle to the same topic.

Yeah, you're right but I think it doesn't really matter at all...maybe they found that topic before yours. But sometimes it's a bit confusing why we only get few response.
