I started an article directory about a month ago. It also sells eBooks. Right now, I'm averaging around 400 visits per day. I'd like this to be around 400+ visits per half hour or hour.
We have 258 articles in the directory. So the site is definitely growing. My purpose isn't to make money but to get it built up for people to have content like any article directory.
What are some methods that you've used to get traffic to your web site? How long does it take to get a web site up and running with real traffic? As long as I'm seeing a slow increase should I just not worry about it?
I'd love to hear people's opinions on this.

You can use free traffic engines, but you will need to work on them to get traffic, but this is not a guaranteed method that visitors will visit again, provide something unique in your site so that visitors will come to your site often, tell your friends about your site and tell them to spread it. Submit your site to search engines, and also to free link exchange sites, if you want links to traffic exchange sites tell me I will give you, I have many nice traffic exchanges that I use.
