When do you start thinking about Christmas?

Christmas Tree - Not yet please!

I noticed a couple of discussions about Christmas ornaments and to be honest with you I'm not ready to even think about it yet! I'm trying to enjoy my summer and the thoughts of the money I'll spend and the family obligations of the holiday stress me out and right now I don't need that going on in my mind. When do you start thinking about all the "trappings" of the Christmas holidays? I usually start shopping in September to get a good head start. When do you start your shopping or are you a last minute Christmas shopper? Doesn't it ruin your summer like it does mine to have to think about it so soon?

They say here in the Philippines is the longest christmas season. Count down starts when September comes in..the so-called "-ber" months..from Sept to Dec. And get this: these count downs are aired in local TV programs every now and then. So i guess we kinda officially start thinking about it by september.

Count down starts from September to December. But i didn't say the longest season for nothing? Sometimes it even lasts until february!!! or until you can still feel the cold in the air. chinese new year is also in february.

I'm lucky that I make a lot of my own Christmas gifts for people...so I don't have that same hassle of shopping for gifts--or, maybe a few weeks before will make homemade gift baskets...I also had a tradition where I would make my "famous" Cranberry Walnut mini-loaves...and give them out as presents--I usually don't even think about Christmas though until the week or so after Thanksgiving...which used to be the tradition...now Christmas shopping is promoted now in July...way too early!!

Crafting projects - I love to make things.
I also make a lot of Christmas gifts for people. I enjoy crafting throughout the year and when I have something specific in mind as a gift for someone it's even more fun for me.

I started today, because I saw a cool present for my grandma. And a couple of shotglasses that my stepfather and mom would really like. I need to start making my list, so I know who to buy for.

I think that's so cool! You have a start already. Presents aren't even on my mind yet and when they are right now their for the many birthdays that are coming.

I haven't even thought about it yet. I am still enjoying my summer. I dread Christmas shopping with all the crowds. I dont even have the money right now to start shopping early.

I've been doing my Christmas shopping online for a couple of years because I can't handle the holiday crowds. I've done very well so far!

The only reason to even think about Christmas in July is you have to make a gift by hand, like a blanket, and you need to start so you will be finished in time. I usually don't think about Christmas until thanks giving. Usually that gives me about a month to get everything together.

Your right about that. I used to crochet afghans for people for Christmas and had to start in the summer. I've since stopped that because everyone has too many...lol...

stupid christmas - stupid christmas dogs costume
I try to Never think about Christmas. Its become so Commercialised that it makes me Sick. In fact I bought an RV so I could go away from Home at christmas time. This releaved the sickness some, but Christmas is a recurring disease that comes back each Year near the end of December. I'm not a drinker so I can't get drunk and wake up when its over. What to do? Well I've tried everything and nothing works well. Of course, I never give gifts, or receive any at Christmas. I do it all Year long, at birthdays, or any other celebrations. I Hate the christmas Music, I hate the constant Christmas Commercials, I Hate the whole month of December! I even hate the Stupid Christmas Lights they insist in stringing up around the houses. Christmas doesn't ruin my summer or my winter. I just let it go bye bye bye...

Hallmark has their ornament premier in July. It really seems too early to think about Christmas when you are in the middle of Summer vacation. Your need to think about Christmas may depend on how far ahead you need to start buying gifts in order to not overload the budget in December.

Hallmark even puts out their cards earlier than most for all occasions. I think their trying to get the edge on all the other card companies.

I got a catalog in the mail last week and it was 100% Christmas stuff. If you ordered at least $60 before Sept; you could take 20% off. Needless to say, I dumped it in the trash. "Christmas in July"; Bah humbug!

I do a lot of my shopping online and use the money I make from a lot of my money making sites to pay for it so I'm not really stuck having to save. As for lists I seldom make them I'm usually too busy reading everyone else's.

Christmas is the last thing on my mind at the moment. My son turns 5 at the end of this month, both my inlaws birthdays are in early August, my sister in laws x2 birthdays are in late August and early September, my mother is turning 60 on Sept 10th and I don't have a clue what I am going to do for all of them except my son and my mom. Christmas will just have to wait!

For some reason the summer is always full of birthdays for everyone. I have the same problem. Birthdays right up until November.

I don't think about Christmas until around November 1st. Christmas always costs us alot of money we don't have so I try to put it off. I agree with you. Spending money I don't have stresses me out also and then the family obligations on top of that really stresses a person out.

The stress the holidays cause is ridiculous. I don't remember my parents feeling this way when I was young and my mother can't understand why I go through it.

Hi, I do not really start thinking about Christmas until after the American Thanksgiving. After that holiday I begin to decorate the house and do all those usual things. In terms of my actual shopping...I tend to do that on Christmas Eve almost every single year. I am not sure why I put myself throught that...but I do. :) cheers,

I've always wanted to do some shopping for the next Christmas on Christmas eve but I'm usually broke by then. That's the night I have my son over for dinner so it wouldn't work out anyway.

I don't really think about Christmas until right before. I get tired of all the hype about it. People focus way too much on the material side of Christmas. It has become too much on giving huge expensive gifts instead of spending time with family and enjoying each others company. I spent Christmas in a country that doesn't celebrate it one year and it was amazing. They had a few lights up but only for New Years since that is their biggest holiday. It was so fun to enjoy the holiday without all the extra junk around.

That sounds like a relaxing way to spend Christmas and I could definitely deal with that. Smart country I would say.

Well my daughter's birthday is September 7 and there is back to school and car insurance renewal on September 5th so Christmas is that last thing on my mind. I used to do the chirstmas shopping right after back to school but I noticed that the kids were seeing all this cool stuff later in the year and wanted that instead so I wait till Novemeber to get stuff. After that its too bad you get what you get. Trying to keep up with what they asked Santa for is pretty hard cause I hate going into busy stores and hate last minute shopping. LOL Vicki

I remember how tough it was with kids and your right it seems like all the good toys come out closer to Christmas. When you have so much going on months before it's hard to think about buying gifts for everyone.

When I start early it helps me enjoy it better because I am not doing all that last minute rush. I am starting early this year because my financies are low so if start saving or buying stuff on sale now it means my holiday celebrations will truly be a celebrations. I also am doing some craft projects so its imperative that those be done now if I am ever going to get some sold. I am not focus on the holidays 24/7 so I am still able to enjoy the summer time.

I have a granddaughter who sings christmas songs all year long so it is pretty much on my mind all the time. I also have a sister who was born on Christmas day. I tell her she is the worse present I ever got (not really, I just like to tease her). As for buying gifts, no matter how early I start, I am still buying at the last minute.

I'm one of those people who loves Christmas so I kind of think about it all the time. I kinda wish it's always Christmas. Well, that's because there's Christmas break and of course presents and stuff. But it's not as happy as when I was younger. I don't know why. It makes me really sad. I guess being a parent changes that because like you said, you're the one who spends and stuff. I guess I really think about Christmas when the -ber months hit. I don't really buy presents. I just bake for my friends. That way, it's more special. And cheaper. :) But if I had to get gifts, I'm one of the last minute shoppers. :) What I do is that I save money. Come December, that's when I spend. :)

I start thinking about Christmas about this time and only in the sense of what I could get now that would be less than buying it in the winter Christmas season

Well I don't think to hard about it right now but I do get kids from the kids of what they want and things like that. If I see something I can't pass up for someone I will go ahead and get it. I don't mind shopping early I just hate having to keep all the stuff for months because I don't have much room in my house. Also sometimes if I really like something I got someone I can't wait to give it to them so they end up with it before it's time.

I start thinking about Christmas on December 26th. I try to go to all the after Christmas sales. I tend to forget about it and not worry about it unless I find something throughout the year that is a really good price. I also make a lot of crafts for people, so I have to get a head start on those. But...I LOVE Christmas. I LOVE the holidays. So if I can think about it throughout the year it makes me even happier.
