Do you really read all the responses before responding to a discussion?

I recently checked the mylot guidelines just to review and make sure I don't violate any of its regulations but I was surprised to see that in # 7 of DONT's it says : Respond to a discussion until you've read all of the responses. I was indeed surprise, what if the discussion has 200 responses Do we really ahve to read it? I think it's quite hard and yes I am guilty of this one. But I make sure, I read some of the responses like a page or two but never all the responses. what about you guys? are you also guilty of this violation? or do you really read all the responses before responding? just wanna know.

I wasn't aware that was a violation LOL I read the first page or two but because I answer straight from my email I don't often see the other responses until I have entered my reply.

I do the same. I answer straight my friend notification, and that doesn't show any other replies.

It is better to read all the responses before we answer. It is better this way because if not maybe you will be answering the same thing. Anyway, if there are too many replies you just skim through and get a general idea what are they discussing about. This will help.

I agree~! I usually read all the responses and then comment on those that I agree on (just like this). I usually don't tend to respond to the discussion again if my answer is basically the same with what someone had already answered. After all, it's a discussion, right? Not a Q&A session. I only give my response if it's entirely different from anyone else's.

I know that that is in the Don't section, but I answer most of my discussions from my email notifications, I think that its better that way I do not get influenced at all by what other people have said in their responses.

you have a good point there, not reading other responses means you cannot just copy what others have just said.

I dont have much time reading all of the responses especially if the responses are already more than a 100. I mean, its possible but I prefer writing my own response since I know that all of us has different ideas about a certain topic and yet we have some similar points.. Its not really needed that we have to read all responses.. As for me, i just read the first page of the responses.. and thats it.. Im off to go.

It's contradictory I think. I mean, most ppl respond right from their emails so if we have to read the responses first b4 responding, then why have email notifications which allows you to respond right from the email? Don't make sense to me. I respond mostly from my inbox instead of searching thru alllllllll my friends' discussions.

most people do that I guess because it's easier, I think they (mylot) should do something about this. :)

I respond from email and so using the tool that they have given me I end up not reading the other responses til after mine is posted. I am not violating when the tool that they give me guides me otherwise. I do not copy another and only on occasion is it similar in any way. I tend to think a bit differently and that normally works to my advantage.

I read the first few especially on the first page unless the topic is really interesting! Its difficult to read more than 10 responses as its time consuming and theres a lot of repetition.

No ............. I read the question and then answer it. i some times read the other response later, because if I read the response first , i may change my answer..............lol (in some case)

I don't read the responses before I respond. I don't want to be influenced by what everyone else is saying, for one thing. I need my head to be clear. I didn't know that that was a rule. Am I in trouble? Hope not.

Hello cefaz. I normally read a few pages of the responses before adding mine. This way, I will have a general idea of what the other posters are responding. I have to say though that reading all of 100 or even 200 responses can be time consuming. I haven't experienced it anyway since I put on the notifications for my supportive friends. I would rather partake on discussions with few responses to show my support as well. :)

If I'm interested in the topic, and therefore interested in what others' opinions are about it, I'll read the comments. But if it just something about everyday life, chances are I won't read them.

If the discussion has two pages long of replies, I really will read every single reply. But if it has more than two pages, I'll go through each page and read some on each page. Once the replies get to 25 or 30, no one would expect us to read them all. At least they better not!
