I can't hear any sound when I am trying to watch videos

Lately I've noticed that I can't hear any sound when I am trying to watch videos online. Currently, I'm using Windows Media Player and Internet Explorer. The sound on Windows Media Player is great when I'm watching a DVD on my computer, but then when I go online and try to watch the news or videos or listen to radio channels online, there is no sound. Could that just be my computer? Can a virus mess up the sound? Is there some type of special application that I need to be running to hear the sound?

I too run the same system as you,I have had this problem before sometimes it is the site it's self and not your computer but you can test your system if you go to your control panle and find your video card. Sorry i couldn't be more helpful.
