I have a serious health concern....

This time, no more bad cholesterol foods! - I am upset and depressed now because I just found out that I am not really health! My blood sugar and bad cholesterol are rather high! I am anxious what would come next after my doctor checks on me tomorrow. From this time on, I promise to choose the food that I eat, and avoid foods which are high in fat, and cholesterol...I am scared...

Just this afternoon, I took my lab results and brought it to my doctor; she told me the result is so bad: I took 3 lab tests, for lipid, glucose and for creatinine--I flunked in the two tests: lipid and glucose. My blood sugar is above the normal level, and my LDL (bad cholesterol) is way up high! But that's not all...my triglyceride is also twice the normal level! I am upset, frightened and helpless! I am scheduled to see an endocrinologist tomorrow for these findings and already, I am feeling the pressure of 'what if's'...Help! I talked to my son already; my daughter has not yet arrived and I'm afraid to tell my husband who works out of town...he might also freak out...I'm at a loss now...

I'm sorry to hear that you are having so many health problems right now! I really don't know much about that area of health concern, so I guess I don't have any advice or anything to offer, but I wanted to let you know I'll be thinking about your for your visit with the specialist tomorrow! I'm in the middle of my own health crisis at the moment, so I know how it feels! It's so scary waiting to find out what all the mumbo jumbo test results mean! Good luck!

I know this feels scary, and it should probably be monitored closely for a while. Good news is that there are lots of things than can be done. There are medications, but much better: there are lifestyle changes that can be made. Less stress, cutting fast carbohydrates from your diet, and exercise - preferably strength training. I have had to make these changes in my diet myself. It is not so hard when you know it is necessary for your health. I hope you get to see a dietician. It is so good to get tome knowledge about the processes in your body. It makes it so much easier to make and maintain the changes. I wish you the best, and hope that your apointment tomorrow goes well.

You should start taking cinnamin capsules. They help regulate glucose levels. You should aso keep an eye on your BUN and creatnine. These measure how well your kidneys are working. People with higher glucose levels (usually diabetics) have a much greater risk of developing renal (kidney) failure.

Sounds like a lifestyle change is in your future. That can be scary. But you can make the necessary changes and there are medications that can help. Focus on becoming healthy, because what we focus on is what we bring to us. So getting upset and frightened will only make matters worse. See the changes you can make and start making them. You can count on all of us here to support you, encourage you. Put yourself on a diabetic diet, get some exercise every day - a brisk walk if you are able, and practice relaxation exercises - meditation, breathing exercises, guided imagry, whatever works for you. You will see a difference in a matter of days. And keep us posted.

Just please stay calm and follow the instructions from your doctor. Tell to your husband and family, you'll feel better if you are not hiding the truth. Other thing. My uncle has had the same diagnose like yours. He has had 1 year to stop eating things that are "prohibited" for him. But unfortunately, he didn't follow the instructions from the doctor, and had a heart attack before 3-4 months. I don't wanna scare you, but please stay patient, don't panic and follow the instructions from your doctor. Good luck!
