My kids loved bananas cut up into pieces, pieces of cheese, peas. . .anything that was big enough for them to pick up, but small enough that they wouldn't choke on if they didn't chew it up. Just walk down a baby aisle in the grocery store, there should be different items for different stages. Gerber is very good about telling you what ages and stages the food is for.

I am jealous. My son doesn't like bananas, no peas, no carrots. I don't know when he will like real food.

As long as he has teeth cheerios are good for them so not to worry. Gerber has finger foods in jars that work great too. You just need to make sure it is small enough so that if they swallow without chewing they won't choke on it. Finger foods of any kind are great for hand coordination. Canned fruit however messy is great cut up for finger foods too. Like peaches that aren't hard to swallow but needs to be cut up. Peas is good as long as it is just one at time so they need to be watched. I would suggest looking at the baby food section and if you don't want to buy those get them in the regular section just make sure they are the same size as you see in the baby food jars.

My daughter has been on the finger foods since about 8 months, she was a hungry baby & took to them really well! Try fun things like instant noodles - my daughter loves slurping them up & they go down really well. Try cocktail frankfurts - the little hotdogs, melted cheese on toast is good & you just cut them in to little strips, baby carrots or heads of brocoli & cauliflour - they can hold them & chew at the tops. You can also try things like biscuits, cheese sticks, fruit sticks, real fruit - banana is easy to hold, mandarin/orange slices & hot chips (thick fries) cooked in the oven, fish fingers, chicken nuggets - anything like that. Try & make it as fun as possible & if it helps, eat them with him, try fish fingers with a tartar sauce - did yours & then he can dip his! Good luck but by 11 months he should be eating quite a lot of big people foods anyway so try anything you want! By 11 months, my daughter was eating everything we were, minus the spicy stuff!

My youngest son only wanted to eat finger foods until 12 months, then he only wanted to eat with a fork or spoon, and now he only wants to eat by himself. I have just tried to keep him on a varied diet, but otherwise I have let him have his independence as much as possible as long as he was eating. My son's favorite fingerfoods are ryebread with liver pate(liverwurst) or cream chees cut into small squares and frozen green peas. Good luck with your little one, I know first hand how much food habits can concern a mother.

My 9 month old daughter loves stuff that she can pick up by herself but sometimes I can find it gets a bit messy, at meal times when my partner and I just want to sit down and eat and chat I tend to give her a small bowl of peas and corn to keep her occupied while we eat our tea, she loves this! I also give her cooked carrots, pieces of mandarins and things like that. I have found banana to be really messy as she likes to squish it between her fingers and that is just gross! My daughter pretty much eats what we eat now which is really good for me! I just give her anything in portions small enough for her to eat! Oh and I also give her cheese sticks which she loves

I used to give our kids cut up hot dogs and fries at meals. I also chopped up the meat the 'grown ups' were having real small. Cut green beans or peas or corn kernels are also good. And the child is getting something that is good for him.

May be my son isn't ready for the real grown ups food. He chew on them and spit them right out.

By tweleve months, here in Australia, experts recommend that toddlers are eating three full meals a day, plus snacks and milk intake is limited to 2-3 times a day (maximum)... Personally, I found cutting back my son's milk intake the hardest, even though he was definitely having enough food. It is important to keep encouraging your child to eat avariety of food, as you are setting up his habits for later on in life. Teaching toddlers to eat a wide variety of foods can be hard. They will spit it out, they will gag and they will refuse to eat... try talking to your gp or maternal and child health nurse (or equivalent) about it and see what they suggest but I would recommend just persisting offering him food. Does he have many teeth? By that age, my son was eating everything we ate (plus more- he is a less fussy eater than I am lol), except for (as another poster mentioned) spicy foods. Try offering fruit cut up into pieces/ fingers he can hold. Celery sticks, carrot sticks... cucumber. If the only thing he will eat at all, ever is cheerios I would take him to a doctor just to get some advice on how to introduce more foods to his diet... just my opinion though, at the end of the day your his mother and know whats best for him. Good luck with it all, let me know how you fare.
