So My boyfriend and I have decided to take a road trip. We were going to go in August, but we have decided to wait until December. I know its a ways away, But I have to start saving now. Since I am in College we cant really take a week in August. So this is the plan for now. We live in Texas. We are going to rent a car, Drive to Indiana and visit a friend for a day or two, then Drive to rockford IL, to see a few of his friends, and to see where he grew up. Then we are going to head to Chicago and see the big city. After a few days in IL, we are heading up to Michigan. If you remember My long lost brother found me on Myspace. So I am going to meet him in person, since that is where he lives. Then we are going to Brians families lake house. After all of that we will head back home. First do you think we can do all that in a week? Second how much do you think that kind of trip will cost? I think we could do it for about $1000. If we do it in a week. renting a car will cost around $15/day for a week. we will only need a hotel for about two or three days. So what do you think? am I correct on my pricing? I need to start saving now.

wow, sound so fun and cool. I want to go !!! hehehe... well, I never take that long trip before but it sounds about right, if you dont stay at the fancy hotel and eat in an expensive restaurant.... however, within a week is really short for the whole trip like that... you need to spend more and no rush... why dont you get 2G and try to spend 1G first and if it is not enough then use another Grant. what do you think? I always have a back up cuz just in case I need the money.

well Brian thought we would only need 6 or 700. I convinced him that we would need at least 1000.

Hey jess! I live in Rockford, IL too! Don't get too excited about coming to Rockford, there's not much to do here in the winter. However, you will LOVE Chicago! Where are you going in Michigan? I used to live right outside of Ann Arbor. Do you need the hotel while you are in Rockford? I can give you some tips on decent places to stay that won't kill your wallet. We have "hotel row" here, and some of the places can get pretty pricey. If you are staying in Chicago I suggest you hit hotels.com. We go to Chicago every year over July 4th weekend, which is usually pretty busy, and we have gotten some incredible deals on hotels downtown right off Michigan Ave. Also, if you are driving from Illinois to Michigan I suggest you take the Skyway to get there, it's a $2 toll, but well worth the hour and a half it saves you on the road, and the scenery is a lot better.

I might hit you up for some hotel ideas later. Brian Knows a lot of people, so I am not sure where we will need a hotel yet. But I will definetly keep you in mind. Thank you.

Hey j368, Things always end up costing more than you plan especially on road trips. You were very fortunate to find a rental car for $15 a day the cheapest I've ever gotten one is $30 a day.Have fun & be careful-post us some pics of the top of the sears tower.|;) +'s |:)

If I were you, I'd look at a few things... What is the average mileage for the car you're renting? Check online to find out gas prices for where you're going and figure the highest for cost. You also need to figure in food. I didn't see it mentioned. I would figure more than $1000 just to be safe. If you don't use it, you'll have it when you get back...:)

I think you would need $1000.00 minimum. I just took a road trip to Atlantic City from Indiana, and I used more money than expected. NOt even on the hotel...it was already paid for. You will need to figure in food, gas, and small, unexpected wants as well. And remember ...gas in Indiana is outrageously priced right now. I'm not sure about doing all of that in a week, if you are wanting to visit a couple of days in each place. You might find yourself more stressed than relaxed if you try to fit in too much in such little time. I hope everythign works out,a nd have a good time:)
