If we examin the word etimologically we can find that the word poppet has it's root in Latin, and the meaning is puppet, not an ordinary puppet but a puppet used in witchcraft etc. It could be made of wood, carved fruits, vegetables, or cloth stuffed with some herbs.I am not sure if it is right, but this is what I could gather with a quick search. Yes indeed, a poppet is as you say the small doll used in European Witchcraft for supposedly capable of causing harm to an individual by having pins stuck into it. all the best urban
