My husband broke out with serious poison ivy. Any ideas on how to treat it and dry it up faster?

If he can soak in a swimming pool, that would help a lot. I just recently had that problem and besides calamine lotion, that is what I did. Also a histamine blocker that are in some cold meds. works on the itching. I take the minimal amount.

This remedy works for a lot of skin irritations. It was passed on to me by my grandmother, and it really works. Fill the tub with warm water, and add 2 cups of rolled oats. Have your husband soak for about 20 minutes. Apply caladryl or calamine lotion to the worst spots, and he'll feel better in no time.

I would love to try it, but, we only have one bathroom and it's a shower stall.... poor me with three kids and a bad back. i use a rubbermaid container for the two little one's baths. should i tell him to sit in that!!! LOL so far he tried caladryl, calagel, purel, chlorine w/ water, baking soda (he said swelling went way down), topical sprays, and some other things. I'll post a picture of his eye when he's better. poor guy!

Another way to use this method is to make a thin solution and apply it directly to the affected area, or buy a bar of oatmeal soap, or an oatmeal masque from the cosmetics counter. I know it sounds weird, but the oats really do the trick! Somehow, they draw the poisons out of the skin and into the oats, and it goes right down the drain when you rinse it off. I don't know why I didn't consider that you would only have a shower, since I only have one, too,
