I do the beach regularly and sometimes walk along the old paths, I hardly ever find anything but I keep trying....The house that I live in has an old wife's tale that the woman buried her money in the yard, she must have gone down 50 feet, because the most I found was a dime, lol..:)

As you must know by now, pull tabs seemed to have been around forever. It is discouraging to do all that digging and find an aluminum pull tab. Maybe that is the mystique of the hobby (for some a living); just one more shovel full and jackpot...the big one! I have two WHITE metal detectors. One is an older "Gold Master", designed to find gold. Unfortunately, it has no discriminator and will pick up anything. If it goes off there is something down there. Maybe another pull tab, maybe gold; maybe not. The newer one is an XL and has the digital readout, and gives me some idea of a pull tab or not. The biggest problem with the digital readout, is its slower recovery time; So I have to go slower; Not that I am in any hurry. Don't want to miss the "mother Lode."

I do not do metal detection, but when we lived in Vancouver, there were people who went along the beaches looking for lost coins and treasure. I have not seen anyone searching their yards, unless it would be those who live on farms. We do not have such big yards here in Canada, at least in Winnipeg so it is not feasible to use metal detectors.

I am still learning the ins and outs of metal detecting. I have a Garrett metal detector, and it has many features that I haven't figured out yet. So far I have only tried to metal detect in my yard; I want to go to the park but I don't know what the rules are about metal detecting there yet. I think it would be fun to go to an old ghost town; that is on my list of things to do. :-)

I bought my first metal detector last year for my birthday. Ever since I've been metal detecting at a local park. Two reasons go into that. One is I just enjoy doing it there and secondly, to be quite honest, my options for locations is pretty limited where I live. I would love to go metal detecting at beaches but unfortunately the nearest one is around a five hour or so drive so I can't just pick up and go. As for what I've found, to date I've found $2.50 in coins people have lost at the park.
