could this be an allergy?

Whenever my husband eats spaghetti sauce from a jar he gets really bad heartburn and nothing seems to help it. And here's the thing, he can eat it if it's homemade and he can eat tomatoes and even canned stewed tomatoes, as well as pizza. It just seems to be the sauce from a jar. So I'm wondering if anyone knows if there is some ingredient in the sauce that he could be allergic to?

It could be the preservatives that are used in pre-made sauces. My oldest has issues with the preservatives in juices so we have to have homemade fresh for her.

thank you. That is a possibility, I know they have to add stuff to canned and jarred food to keep it from going bad.

Hi there. I was just going to ask if he was allergic to tomatoes, but then read on further that he eats tomatoes just fine, I know tomatoes have alot of acid in them, which can cause heartburn, then maybe its some other additive in the food, that clashes with him and causes hearburn...

Thank you. We even tried to add sugar to the sauce because it's supposed to reduce the acid in the tomatoes but that didn't help. It's a pain in the butt because I love to eat pasta and you can only do so much with alfredo sauce.

did u see if the product contains MSG.its used for presevation and many people are highly sensitive to it.check it out!!

it might be some of the spices. some people have allergic reactions to certain spices.

It could be, thank you. It's funny because he can eat hot peppers and tomatoes and other different things but if he eats jar tomato sauce it kills him.
