HIstory repeating itself

Years ago I wa sin a violent relationship, it took me 8 years to break from it and now I am happy on my own ad have been for over 2 years, I am so upset though, I have a freind who is male and he is going through the same, if not worse tahn what I have done, His partner has stabbed him, spat in his face, fractured his skull, now after the last argument she went to hit him and when he pushed her away she called the police on him and he is now due to appear in court soon, he did not hurt her only pushed her away to defend himself I saw this coming a mile off and warned him, although did not expect him to listen as I did not with my ex, I had to realise it for myself. I really can see history repeating itsef and I am frightened of what could happen to my freind, he always turns up at my door when he is upset and I advise and help as much as I can but I know he will return to his ex, no matter how much he says it is for his children surely he can see that the azrguments and fights are no good for them. I worry that one day he will be murdered or sent to jail if he finally flips, I just don't know what to do to help. i feel as if I am watching my own mistakes in slow motion from the outside, it is really upsetting me but I know that my freind will have to realise in his own time before it is too late just as I did, I hope he comes to this decision soon before it is too late. Have you ever been in this situation yourself or as me have a freind who you are trying to help, would love to hear from you, if not would still be grateful for your advice and opinions.
