I Wanted To Read The Harry Potter Book--BUT!!

I'm so annoyed at myself..LOL..I had pre-ordered the latest and last Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Gallows through amazon.com --I thought I would have to wait a few days AFTER it's official release on July 21st to get it, but amazingly at 9 in the morning my doorbell rings, and it's the postman delivering the book in my hands! I was so-o-o-o ecstatic --so I usually like to read before going to bed...and I used to read quite a bit before sleeping. So last night, I cuddled up in my bed, with book in hand and started reading....and then......next thing you know...a few hours later I wake up...yup --I had fallen asleep! Looking at the time I realized it was too late to read anymore, so sadly put the book on my table, and continued to go to sleep....But I was so annoyed at myself! Has this ever happened to you...you get all enthused about wanting to read something...then actually fall asleep while reading...sure hope I can stay awake long enough to read more tonight...goodness I hadn't even finished the first chapter!

LOL - that is pretty much how it was today. My hubby is so glad that I've finally finished it. It took me somewhere around 14 hours total to finish it. I was taking my time, savoring every word, visualizing every thing...I wanted to make it last. I'm exhausted too! Shew! Have you read anymore of it today?

Oh yes, this has happened to me quite a bit. It has happened to me when reading a book as well as getting ready to watch a tv show that I like. I hate it more when I miss one of my tv shows since you may not get to see that episode again. With a book, we will still have it available to us to read. I bet that you are reading the book right now. :-)

I'm one of these strange people who has been known to stay up all night to finish a book. Reading never did make me tired. Sadly though I cannot afford to get the new book yet. A friend sent me a pdf file and another friend who has read the book skimmed through it and said it looks accurate but I'm still leery it might not be the same. Still might be better then nothing.

I did a pre-order of the book sometime ago at amazon.com at half the price....can't believe how expensive "children's" books can be.

Don't beat on yourself, these books are to enjoyed, not endured. If your body is tired, you sleep. You will be able to enjoy the book better when you are awake.

Pye - its Deathly Hallows, not Gallows hun. I hope that's just a typo, but I've seen someone do it before

Yes, it has happened to me a number of times when I'm reading before bed. I always read before bed and I sometimes fall asleep with the book in my hands. No problem, I just finish up another night or sometimes, I wake up in the middle of the night and read. However, it won't happen to me reading the Harry Potter books. I haven't read any of them. I'm one of those people who has just never been able to get into any kind of fantasy. Sometimes I wish I could. Especially when the Harry Potter frenzy is on. This is the second friend's thread I've answered today on Harry Potter and all I can say is I haven't rea a single book.

The alternative would have been worse mate...you'd have been up all night reading...lol. I used to always read before sleeping but now I'm asleep by the time I've read a few lines. Sometimes I get into bed and think, oh what the heck and switch the lamp off and wake up later still wearing my glasses...I think it's something to do with age.

Lucky you, pyewacket, to have gotten in on the earlybird release of the new Harry Potter book! All the talk for the past few days have been about this sensation. It even took some of the thunder out of the Beckhams coming to America, LOL. I have fallen asleep many times over a book that I just couldn't put down. I will usually wake up with the book on my chest and my glasses still on my face, haha.

I do that too...waking up with the book smashed up on my face..LOL....the other hinderance is that my one cat just loves to help me read-in other words sits right on top of the book while I'm trying to read...LOL

I tried my best not to read on my bed, as it will be so tempting to just fall asleep. I only read on my bed when it's already past 1 or 2 am. So it's ok if I fall asleep coz I should get some sleep as well. I don't know bout you people, but the last few chapters can be guessed, and I fall asleep reading chapter 33 or 34. That was the only time I fall asleep reading this final book. Good luck on your reading anyway. I think it would be better if you sit on a chair and read the book. Good luck!

Awesome! I am glad for you that you got the book on the same day! I have bought all the other books but I didn't have much money to spare this time and so my sister bought the book. It is a bit annoying as now she can claim the book to be hers and I can only read when she puts the book down. All the other books (Which I bought) I got to read first and the anxiety to continue reading when I give her the books kills me inside. The good thing is that I am a quick reader and I am actually ahead of her. I started the book yesterday as we just bought it at a Publix on the day before the end of our nine day vacation in Clearwater and I am now on page 292 which I believe is Chapter Fourteen :-D I am quite excited to be reading the last book but sad that I will never feast my eyes upon an eighth tale of 'The-Boy-Who-Lived'. Well to answer your question yes I, like you, prefer to read before sleeping (in my bed) and usually end up reading myself to sleep and wake up with the book I was reading opened where I left off on my chest hehe. My Mom has found me this way many mornings, especially the week a new Harry Potter book comes out! Good luck on staying awake and reading a few more chapters, it really does get better around the fifth chapter ;-)

I do it all the time- I fight sleep—and I feel my eyes closing in bed- and then I keep reading- but I have to keep rereading the same sentence over and over because I’m too tired to get it- lol.. I think I’ll just close my eyes for a few minutes and then I’ll be refreshed- LOL then the next thing I know- My sig other is removing my glasses and taking the book off his pillow- He is too funny- Honey you need to stop reading so late- : ) so yep all the time- Try reading sitting up- maybe you will make it into chapter 2.

Actually before my past time, I used to read a book and I can made it to the very last end. But I'm doing this when I'm not going to bed or to sleep, because when I'm reading I really felt asleep thats why when I'm very interested and the story is very beautiful I see to it that I will finished it and I will read it in the time of the day that I'm really awake and not lying in the bed. But when I'm want to get sleep and I have a hard time I usually read a book so that my eyes will get tired and easily fall asleep. And my suggestion to you that if You really want to finished the book of harry you must read it not lying or not going to sleep, you must read it by daytime.

I read slowly, because I keep falling asleep when I am reading. I read only a few pages then I am out. LOL I use to put myself asleep when reading a bedtime story to my children. LOL Yes I did do that several time. My kids stoped asking me to read to them.
