What do you think about the NHL's idea to air a game on New Year's Day?

I think they have a good idea to play a game outside like they did a few seasons before but on New Years Day? The day everyone will be watching college football?

I think it is a great idea. Being from Canada, I'd much rather be watching a hockey game while I'm sitting on the couch nursing my hangover. I doubt it would be well received in the USA though, so they would be better off broadcasting in Canada only. Perhaps a traditional Habs/Leafs tilt.

That is a great idea! I am a rare breed, a die hard hockey fan and I am an American, so I would love to see the Habs try to beat the Leafs. The CBC would air it and Versus could carry it here in the States, It could star a great tradition. Sadly I think the game will be the Sabres vs the Rangers. Why?

Personally, I think they'd be best to try to organize it so that it's not going to conflict with the home team's football game of the day. I can't even begin to describe how thrilled I'd be to see the Detroit Lions/Chicago Bears, and immediately afterwards get to see Detroit/Chicago play on an outdoor ice arena for Thanksgiving or such. Same goes for college ball. I'd be stoked to see UofM play one of their rivals, and then get to watch the Wings take the ice at the outdoor setup later on that day.. I think it's a good idea all around. It certainly opens up the viewing options for people who otherwise may not have been glued to the tv.

I think I would like the idea of watching a game on New Years Day. I don't like football, so there is no conflict here. Hockey is the best sport ever. If they decide to air a game on this day I would be happy. I don't watch anything on that day and I get so bored with the same thing every year. So I think it is a great idea. Peace, Totty
