Someone very close to me died yesterday. She's not a family member, but she has always been a part of our family. We call her "Auntie Chang," a friend of my Mom's way back in her college days. She is a charming petite woman with a very good heart. My mom had the chance of visiting her before she passed away. Mom said that Auntie Chang have always shown a different kind of strength. Even when death is already at her door, she seems to be not afraid of it, welcoming it instead. When my Mom sent me the text message that informed me of Auntie Chang's passing away, my heart raced. I cannot understand how I felt, maybe it was a mixture of regret for not having seen her for the last time and the feeling of missing her for all time. I was in tears, it wouldn't just stop from flowing. And now that I'm writing this, tears run down my cheeks again. But these tears are not tears of uncertainty about Auntie Chang's whereabouts right now. These are tears of joy that Auntie Chang is finally home with her Creator. The thought of being finally home might be the very thought that made Auntie Chang welcome death. Human as we are, we will, in the long run face death too. I am looking forward to that day. And like Auntie Chang, I will be happy to embrace death to be finally home to where I really belong. What do you think is there after this life? Are you afraid of dying?
