My son broke his arm and had to have surgery to put a rod in the bone to make it stay put. The orthopedist that did the work, when it was time to be discharged from the hospital, told me that I needed to have my son checked for thyroid problems. He didn't give any specifics, just told me that with some of his "problems" that it would be a good idea. I have looked online for thyroid problems and yes my son meets some of the criteria to be at risk, but I think it would have been more helpful for the doctor to state the problems. His pediatrician has never said anything about it. Anyway, has anyone else ever had to have their child checked for thyroid problems? I am going to call his pediatrician and discuss this issue with him, but I was just wondering if this is a common occurence in children. Any advice would be helpful, thank you!
