Attack of the caffeine fiend!

This morning I woke up at three AM and to my utter horror found that there was not one ounce of coffee or tea in the house. Needless to say, I spent the morning with a terrible caffeine withdrawal headache and real gloomy attitude. And, the unseasonally cold weather didn't make me feel any better! After six hours of waiting, I got my first dose of caffeine. Next time I'll need to be better prepared. I'm anticipating my next caffeine shortage by hiding some coffee in the cabinet. Next time we run out, I will have my own personal caffeine stash! So, what do you do when you run out of caffeine in the house, and it's hours away from your first cup of coffee? How do you prepare yourself for caffeine shortages?

Hmmmm - that sounds really rough Sweety! I have never been in that situation but that is mainly because I never rely on one caffeine source! lol I always have some cola in the fridge, several jars of instant coffee and a few bags of different blends for the coffee maker - I would hate to see how I behaved with no caffeine whatsover! xxxx

I try to avoid human interaction when I am without caffiene. That is hard to do since I am also a stay at home mom. There is no getting away from my need for caffiene! LOL!

OMG !!! I know exactly how you felt, I have learnt the hard way though to keep an extra supply of coffee no matter what...lol. I keep at least one extra jar hidden away at the back of the cupboard.

Our tire went flat a few days ago, and since the hubby had some time off from work, we didn't rush to get it fixxed. That meant no trips to the store for stock-up. Bad move, cause stuff like coffee/tea started running out. That got remedied this morning. I'll be more prepared next time. Promise!

We look frantically for every package of tea and until we can get to the store, use them. We decided that we had better buy a large can of coffee and then keep it in the fridge, so that when our in-laws start coming (sometime this month, sometime around Christmas, sometime next year) they will have some coffee. But since we hardly ever see them unless we go to their place, and since my daughter-in-law and son are tea drinkers, why let all that coffee go to waste?

I guess I'm pretty lucky. My husband and I are neither one addicted to caffeine. We do have soda in the house all the time, but we don't even drink any a lot of days. A couple of 12 packs (we don't like the same kind) will last us a month a lot of times. My husband does drink coffee every once in a while, but I don't. I drank a lot of Mountain Dew before I got pregnant. Then I cut back to one every 3 days or so. After my son was born, I temporarily went back to about one a day, just to get me through the long stressful days when I was working and nursing my son and everything. Once I quit working, I cut back on pretty much everything but water. I don't need as much caffeine anymore. There are some weeks when I don't drink any at all, and other weeks when I might have 4 or 5. It varies greatly.

Drinking Coffee - Man with a cup of coffee
I drink a lot of coffee but funny thing is if there is not any around I do not seem to care. My husband on the other hand gets crazy and has to drive somewhere to get a cup of coffee. When he makes a pot I better take the first cup or I will not get any, he will drink all of it before I can get a second one.

Ordinarily I have to limit my pure coffee consumption, cause it makes me kind of weird. But, today when I realized I had nothing with caffeine in the house, I freaked out. Fortunately, my freak out was private as everyone in the house was still asleep. If I had gotten to wake up at a normal time like a regular person, the impact wouldn't have been so bad.

My my, you must be a caffeine addict, for myself, the ultimate resort would be to drink coke cos it contains caffeine as well. Regards, Adrienne http://www.e-marketinghub.com http://www.e-marketing-systems.com

Aargh I definitely know the feeling here. I have withdrawals when I have run out. As soon as I am able I rush to the nearest 7/11 or store just to buy the coffee. I just have to wait it out or else find something else that will satisfy my taste until I can get my coffee LOL Now I make sure I have an extra packet on hand and or make sure everytime we do our grocery shopping every fortnight that coffee is part of the list regardless if I have one packet already LOL

I managed to wean myself from caffeine a while ago, but now I have to make sure that we always have plenty of caffeine in the apartment for my fiance. He is far more addicted to caffeine than I ever was, but it's way too hard for him to stop drinking it. I just have to fight the urge to return to my former addiction, because it's really bad for me. :(

Well, why didn't you give me a call, I wouldn't run some right over to you..LOL.. Sorry about the withdrawals, they can be nasty. I get headaches from them. I would run right over to Walmart and grab me some coffee, so I could have a cup of Joe.. Walmart, 24/7. Gotta love em..and they are only 2 miles away..

I don't run into that problem because I try to avoid caffeine. Years ago I was having a funny feeling with my heart from time to time. My doctor diagnosed me with PVCs or Premature Ventricular Contractions. One part of my heart beats a little before it is supposed to, hence "premature." It is not a real concern and I dont' have to take any medication for it. However, he told me that caffeine can cause it to act up more. Since I started avoiding caffeine I haven't been having those contractions. So I don't have to hide caffeine just in case. lol.

oh my god..that is how i was about my cigs when I smoked...always had a stash. Coffee is not much different...im an addict there as well. thank goodness for 24hour stores! I get migraines if i go without coffee. when they talk about stalking up on essentials in the event of emergencys...caffeine is tops on my list...cigs used to be there. Also always have a jug of kaluah stashed. it is important to take care of the comfort zone.
