I want to buy a laptop but i have a question before I do.. I have DSL as a connection to the internet and was wondering if I were to buy a wireless laptop will my connection bounce off my dsl? Or do I need to buy more things to get a connection for that?

i had dial up before too, when i change to dsl, the isp provider erase the dial up in the computer, i ask why, they said dsl or broadband will not work properly. you could ask your isp if its ok

As Phlamingho has already suggested, you would require a wireless router to use the wireless connection from your laptop. The laptop would also have an ethernet port, which means that you could use it via a cable and purchase a wireless router at a later date if required.

It's almost impossible to buy a laptop today without a wi-fi card build into it. What you need to buy is a wi-fi router. You can pick one up for around $50, so no biggie :-)

When we purchased a laptop some months ago it had a wireless facility but of course a wireless router or Wi-Fi was needed. But I think you are asking about DSL connection... well, what we did was to just connect the cable to the port and create a new DSL connection. You don't need to buy something extra for that as far as I know :)

Hi,
I just bought a laptop recently. Basically the steps I followed were 1. I keep my main computer in the basement hooked up (on DSL) 2. I bought a DLink wireless router. 3. I installed the router on my main computer in the basement. 4. on my laptop I selected the appropriate network from my basement and then....Voila...I was/and am connected.
I hope that is somewhat useful info.
cheers,
