If you are aware that someone is posting copyrighted material off the internet and claiming it to be their own, what would you do? Contact Mylot first? Let everyone know in the discussion that it is copyrighted material? Will they be banned if caught?

Considering that it's in the guidelines that members aren't supposed to post copyrighted material as their own, and also considering the fact that we are all supposed to read the guidelines before getting started with posting, everyone should know better than to do it and not at least give reference to where the material came from. (deep breath) That being said, I think it should be reported to admin. I think it's the most effective way to deal with the problem, rather than inciting other members to jump all over the person that did wrong to begin with. But that's just me.

No, I wouldn't tell everyone who did it. I did report them. They used a picture from 1985 and said they just took it themselves at a friends house.. I think Not! I think it is just sad to say it is yours when you know it isn't.. No Excuses.. I don't mean you as in you Katlady2, I mean you as in anyone..Am I coming in Clear? I am a mess..LOL..I wouldn't want everyone to be mean to this person.

If the person sources the material and says where he/she got it from then i don't think there is anything wrong with that, however if they copy it straight from somewhere else to here and not sourced it, then i would probably say something to them first. I wont report it until they know about it first. If they keep doing it then maybe i might. Have not come across this yet as most of my friends and sometimes myself, if we post something we always source it or say where it came from or added the authors name or something.

They are actually claiming it as their own. They have stated that it is their material but it isn't. thank you.

Then if I had proof that it was taken or copied from somewhere else then I might report if they claim that it is theres.

They are telling everyone that this is their material and I know for a fact it isn't. I found it all on the internet and it is others peoples work. thank you.

This much I know. The discussion would get deleteed. It is already mentioned in the MyLot guidelines. If it is done repeatedly, they would get banned for it eventually, especially if they keep it up. There are some of us in which when there is nothing that could be responded to, or we have already responded to, we do go looking for things like that, & report them. I do happen to own copyrighted material with some other various people, & if I found something like that, I would be on the phone immediately to those who also are named as the copyright holders. If it was something that I, alone, held the copyright to, I'd on the phone with a lawyer if it was not gone within a reasonable amount of time.

I think one of them was deleted and the other one is still on here. To claim something as your own when you know it isn't is really sad. They said they took these pictures themselves and they didn't because I found the exact same ones on the internet. One was taken in 1985, and there is a story behind it also. This person said she took that one at her friends house. No way! The other one I found on the internet, they said they had taken it, but there is no way they could have. I hate it when people lie. thank you for your response.

They used someone elses pictures. One of the pictures had been around since 1985. This person says they just took the picture themselves, now how can that be? The uniqueness of this picture is why it was copyrighted back in 1985.

its very sad isn't it i mean i can understand if someone has trouble with the written word and finds they need to steal someone elses, but a photo or picture when we all in the world have privvy to such wonderful beauty does not make scense to me. report them

I guess if you have proof and contacted myLot about it, they could do something about it if you gave them the details.
