John Barry is one of the greatest film composers in history. I love his music. I'm not a fan of the Bond movies as such I have to say, but I love his songs for them. All of them. Special favourites would be:
1) "From Russia with Love"; exquisitely sung by Matt Monro. 2) "Thunderball"; Tom Jones' greatest ever vocal performance? I think so. The last note caused him to faint. Cool, or what. 3) "You only live twice". I saw this when it came out, and loved it. Yes, I was a Bond fan then. 4) OHMS. No vocals; but wonderfully exciting. Even I like those ski sequences. I also loved the theme tune to "The Persuaders". I used to thrash it out on the piano as a kid. Other Barry movie songs I love are "Born Free", again sung by Matt Monro; and "The Ipcress File". Very stylish. So, to my very favourites: A very special Barry song for me is the theme to "The Deep", whether orchestral, or sung by Donna Summer. However, my favourite Barry piece of all is the harmonica theme to "Midnight Cowboy". Reservations concerning the movie notwithstanding, I cannot think of a more hauntingly poignant movie theme. It seems to somehow sum up all the loneliness of big city life in just a few minutes. So...here's to a musical genius...the one and only John Barry!

Thanks for voting me best response!
"Moonraker" is a nice song. "All Time High" too, very pretty song. I didn't know that was one of his. Yes, I've seen "Out of Africa", but not for a long time. I must see again and check out the Barry score.
Yes, I love his music.

I liked Goldfinger the best, and the other James Bonds scores came awfully close. I did not like Out of Africa. I did not like the movie. Wasn't it one of the reasons for people thinking our ancestors came from Africa and that because of that anyone who is Black is more important and should only be portrayed as high officials, police chiefs on Tv dramas?
I am a believer in give everyone a chance and do not make one ethnic group more important most of the time. Beside I am a Bond fan. I hope to get all the Bond films on DVD, but dare not do so because I might not get anything done.

Out Of Africa's score is so beautiful. I am sorry you didn't like the film. But there is a scene where you can hear the score and there isn't anything being said. The next time Out Of Africa is on t.v., just watch the scene, Spoiler alert, anyone who is reading this and hasn't seen the film, stop reading now, watch the scene when Meryl and Robert Redford take a ride in the airplane. Out of Africa wasn't about Blacks being better than Whites. It was set in the 1910's thru 1920's. If you are sick of Blacks being in charge, then you should like it, The Africans are being ruled by the British.

I agree, the Out of Africa theme is an awesome piece of music. The 'Flight over Africa' scene in the film is an extraordinary combination of stunning photography, an emotional storyline and the most beautiful and haunting piece of music ever written. This scene is guaranteed to give me goosebumps and bring me to tears everytime. Its amazing how a piece of music can evoke such a strong emotional response. I suppose that is what music is all about.
