Are animal shows cruel?

I had an aunt that bred dogs for showing. I went to a smaller show with her once. I wouldn't classify them as cruel though. Those people pamper their dogs, that's their moneymakers. Those dogs win a title, they can ask more money for the pups/offspring then. I will say, I think they were a bit extreme though, and kinda pathetic with the chalk, and blow drying stuff. Was kinda pathetic to watch in my opinion lol. Now, what I thought was kinda cruel, my aunt was probably considered an intermediate to advanced expert on the showing stuff. She won a few things I guess, and bred her dogs like mad. They didn't sell, probably because they were so overpriced (again my opinion). So she had this basment full of poor dogs, that were kept in cages most of the time, because they were "show dogs" not pet quality. I don't agree with that at all. I just wonder how many other breeders/showers out there are like that. That's sickening I think.

Very difficult to say. Sometimes, one gets the impression that the animals enjoy what they do. In some cases, you get the feeling that they are well taken care of, and it may set a good standard for animal caretaking. But who can be sure of it? Appearances can be deceptive.

it isnt fair making play animals in the shows if they dont hurt. it is bad when there are battle show between chickens for example or dogs.

I dont like to attend a circus where there are animals involved. I am against the cruelty of animals. I dont think its fair to put animals to perform for man's entertainment.
