What is your first memory about dogs? Did you have a childhood pet growing up? My fondest memories come with my chihuahua/rat terrier mix I had from 3rd grade all the way up to August of 2005. (He was 12-13 years old)..... I remember the day my dad brought him home during summer break and said "Get up, we gotta take YOUR new dog to the vet to get him checked out".... I was SOOOOO excited... and we grew up together... We spent many summers playing outside. I've always had dogs in my life, ever since I can remember. Please share some of your stories.

I have alwasy has dogs as well. When I was 5 we had 15 dogs and two of them had puppies. I remember watching them be born and playing with them {once they got a bit bigger.} My mom has pictures of me with a few of the litters. Id do remember being sad when the puppies got new homes!! When we decided to move from AZ to PA we couldnt take our dogs with us. We found them all good homes which hurt to have to leave them behind. We didnt have a dog at all for a little while. Then Mom and dad brought home 2!! It was nice to have a dog in the house again!! Now I live with my hubby and we have two dogs..one for each child. I cant imagine not having a dog around!

I remember I used to go horse riding a lot I had a little dog that was my shadow, and I remember that his little legs would get soo tired running after us..So he used to jump up onto the horse and sit on the front of the saddle and rest all the way home..He was so adorable..

My fondest memory was when I made my first successful ride on a bicycle. Growing up seeing people ride bicycles in my village and along main roads was extremely admirable in my time as a child. Firstly, these bikes were very few because only a few could afford them! My Father had a bicycle that was so respected that the only time we would touch it was when asked to roll it to safety at night or have it washed. Then one evening it hit as bombshell of joy to us the boys-our father came back from a long journey and found that we had out of childhood responsibility, tidied up the compound and made the evening bond fire! He was so happy that he made the announcement that he had given us 3 days to learn how to ride a bicycle! The following day we went about teaching ourselves how to ride a bike! In just two days we stuned our peers when I and my brother rode through the village on a bicycle ourselves as our friends ran after us with a mixture of envy and admiration! To us, it was one big milestone in our lives fondly rememberd!

Dogs, you mean men? Let me see here... Um, no, I'm just kidding. Men, don't take offense. I am not too fond of dogs, but I had this one black lab named Shadow, and he was sooo cute. I remember driving down a really hilly road one day. He was in the back of the truck, and when we hit the bumps, he would fly up in the air, I was scared he would fall out. But it was so fond because he looked so funny with his ears flying up and he was literally in mid-air! Flying! He he, I laugh just thinking about how funny it looked:D

Last year my parents had to have their dog put to sleep. She was 14 and a Greyhound (who normally only live 10-12 years) and she'd had a stroke. she was too old to try to retrain her...it was really sad. My parents got two cats after that... and It's so weird that they don't have dogs anymore. I always had a dog growing up. I don't know what my fondest memories were. I remember candy, the dog I had till I was about 11, she was 13 or so and also sadly had to be put to sleep because she had an infection in her uterus and she was too old for surgery. Candy was scared of thunderstorms. She was a pretty big dog...an airdale but she'd try to fit herself in the smallest space possible in a room with the most amount of people. It was cute. Sunday... the greyhound... she was just a character and so loveable. When I got my cat she was so jealous. He'd want to play with her and she'd want nothing to do with him. I love my cat. But he's no puppy!

Aww... well I've been fortunate enough to have many great canine companions through the years. Even when I was unable to walk our dog Mandy would guard my door when I was sleeping, share my food (and I hers lol) and start barking if I was in trouble. Funny thing is - she hated all other kids! The second dog in my life was close to me as well. Although technically my grandparent's dog, he only really listened to me. I taught him how to sit/stay/etc and whenever my aunt and I would be outside doing stretches or something (I was in elementary school at the time) he would do them as well... have you ever seen a dog stretch? This is what he did when we touched our toes...as an example. I could go on but I think 2 is good :)
