I have decided that I want to be a poet. I have written my first masterpiece. (I refuse to follow the path of many and just copy/paste a piece of poetry from the internet). Tell me what you think of my first piece of work? Do you think I could get it published? What skills do I need to hone? All suggestions and constructive criticism welcomed!! *wink*

Honor? Some folks haven't any!
My honor is worth more than a cent.
Some folks idea of honor is quite bent.
I come to mylot and follow the rules.
Some come to mylot to grovel like fools.

that's a pretty start for you. you have the heart for writing poetries so continue it. don't let it go away from you just like i did. i had this passion for writing poems, too when i was still in highschool. but i lost interest on it and it went out of my system. now, whenever i try to start one, i just can't find the right words to say. maybe the passion had left me since i did not nurture it years ago.
and for you, nice work crazynurse. nice rhymes and nice word counts. you can also try free verse poems. no need for rhymes. but i think word counts are still necessary.

Hmmmmmm, looks like you've got a good start there. Here's a possible second verse, lol:
Others, they write,
and come out 'not bright',
their words give me bad dreams
all through the night.
Crazynurse is my Mylot name
nobody else has one and the same.
I could write here all day
and never get fame.
The discussions I start,
are crazy and fun,
They've always a twist
and sometimes a pun.
Yes my honor is worth
far more than a cent,
I could type here all day
and yet never 'make rent.'

Aw, thanks. I've always had a love of messin' with words ever since I was a kid. I love working with rhyme & meter, it's that Haiku stuff I can't seem to do, hahaha.

Dull discussions make my eyes become glazed
Then I see this great poem, I am amazed
Honor is a word seldom heard or used anymore
People are treated like dirt on a bathroom floor
Good members are suspended, cancelled, and dissed
I sometimes leave here and feel I should get p!ssed

To come to myLot just for the money
Can stop the game that's just not funny.
I'm here to make friends and learn a few things,

Congratulations on becoming a poet! :) I have been writing poetry since I was about 14 years old (now 27). It can be really relaxing to just write a poem and express what I feel that very moment.

If that is your first piece of work, I will say that you are heading somewhere. poetry is about putting on paper your feelings, experiences, dreams, and such as you live life everyday. I started writing poems when I was 14. I simply put my thoughts and observations on paper as they occur, then I review that piece of writing after say a week or so, to see if it still makes sense to me. If it still does, I put it in a 'final draft' and share it with my friends. I also post my poems in websites such as Poetry.com, poetry4Jesus.com, and such, which can sometime reward you for you work or publish it. You got a great start and keep going!!!!

Well i appreciate your poetry.One Good thing is that they have a modern touch in them and THEY ARE NOT ROMANTIC!Your poems are a little bit Hip-Hop style which is the most popular nowadays.
